George Lucas Brings Animated 'Star Wars' Movie To Theaters:
'Star Wars' is returning to the big screen -- in animated form.
It's been announced that an animated version of 'Star Wars' will be hitting to the big screen this summer. 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' will open August 15 in theaters, and precede the television series debut of the animated series in the fall.
The feature-length, 3D computer-animated film will act as a prelude to the 22-episode television series, which will pick up where the film leaves off and air on the Cartoon Network and TNT.
In a press release, the companies said the movie and series "showcases an entirely new look and feel to the galaxy far, far away, combining the expansive scope of the Star Wars Saga with state-of-the-art computer-generated animation."
They describe each of the 30-minute episodes as "mini-movies" with Jedi Knights battling villains such as Count Dooku and General Grievous. More than 30 episodes of series, which is set between 'Episode II: Attack of the Clones' and 'Episode III: Revenge of the Sith', have already been produced.
