Ohio columnist to Buckeyes fans: Justin Boren doesn't have Wolverine rabies
What doesn't make sense is the suggestion being floated that some Ohio State football fans might not welcome Michigan transfer Justin Boren for fear he will infect the locker room with cooties -- i.e., Wolverine rabies.
The sophomore offensive lineman has been portrayed as a prodigal son from Pickerington who might not be forgiven for leaving Ohio for Michigan in the first place.
The seed also has been planted that Boren might be seen as something less than a bona fide Buckeye since his dad, Mike, played at Michigan under Bo Schembechler and declared he always will be "a Michigan man."
If I'm Justin Boren, I'm not losing one wink of sleep over any of this.
"We welcome Justin Boren with open arms; Mike Boren, too," former OSU All-America lineman John Hicks told The Columbus Dispatch. "Well, we've got to take the old man, too. We've just got to straighten the entire family out."
Hicks reportedly was joking. But he was dead serious when discussing Boren's acceptance by Ohio State fans.
