Surely this topic will raise its head again. Especially when it might come to some of the grey area books. Obviously some are no brainers. But others will fall into a grey area. What about books that pay players but might miss a few advertising payments, does no payment of players weight mnore than not paying an extorted/overpriced ad fee? What about books that make "questionable" judgements against players who were taking shots at them, but get raked over the coals by all the bonus whores and agenda driven guys? Or a book that has been bought or sold recently and is under new ownership that one can work both ways, make the place better or worse BTW? Or a book that knowingly pays very wel and quickly, up to a point, and after a certain threshold the players will be ki cked out? Does a book that only caters to "square" action included as well? I am not taking the books side here, not taking any side really, but it is difficult to paint a line a say definitively that it won't get crossed.
It isn't always black and white, and taking only "good" books is in the eye of the beholder I guess. IMO if they pay ME, they are good. Might be a selfish attitude, might even be a naive one. But I do what I do, I have the same routine. I don't take shots(at least not in my opinion) I don't look for bonuses (don't think I have ever gotten one that I recall), I don't past post, even when I see them CONSTANTLY (at many so called "good" books as well), I use the places as they were intended... a BUSINESS that puts numbers up for me to bet into. If they change those numbers then I have the option of betting that number as well, same shop or not. REAL bookmakers understand this simple idea. ANY line can be bet by ANYONE at the time it is posted.
I don't get into the political or personal aspects of this. Unfortunately some know just enough to make it interesting. Half truths, and misinformation constantly be given on BOTH sides. But that is what happens when debates take place in public forums. Both sides are trying to make their arguments, and eventually both sides lie to make their respective side stronger. The best thing these side could do is post the information only, not editorailize or embellish (like me) just post the issue and let people decide. There will be differing opinions surely, and again, that is where the grey areas come in. You can't please everyone all the time.
That is why this issue will always come back, because eventually a book will come in that people will have an issue with I am sure. It is ineviteable.
What I would [not] like to really see is all these new books coming in and having everyone and their brother saying the guy is solid, "I have personally visited them" and they are run very professionally, "they have deep pockets" yada yada yada...
Some of the books that have been promoted in the past were absolute jokes the "owners"/principles coming into the forums and pimping themselves endlessly only to fold up months later.
So it has to maybe go a little further than actually advertising. Letting them promote themselves at all should be eliminated as well.
Obviously there are new books, but quite honestly people can get EVERYTHING they need now from books with a history, and a "proven" track record. So while it is OK for new books to come around they can't offer anything that a "better" , "more reputeable" book can offer them.
For the most part only guys that really look to the new places are guys looking to bonus whore and get something for nothing. Since they have probably used every other book in existance and have run out of bonuses to get, so they have to go to the new books and hope they get something.
As usual I went on a little bit, but this topic deserves a little more than 3-4 paragraphs of lip service that anyone can claim, but few can adhere to.
