Stanford has offered its men's basketball job to Johnny Dawkins, and the Duke associate head coach is leaning toward accepting, sources said Saturday.

Dawkins interviewed for the job on Friday with Cardinal athletic director Bob Bowlsby. Dawkins is in his 11th year of coaching at his alma mater. He was promoted from assistant coach after the 1998-99 season. He was named player personnel director for the USA Basketball Senior National Team in 2006. As a player, Dawkins finished his career in 1986 as Duke's all-time leading scorer. He was a two-time all-Atlantic Coast Conference selection and went on to play nine NBA seasons. The Stanford job became available this month when Trent Johnson, the 2008 Pac-10 coach of the year, accepted the top position at LSU. |

Don't like this hire at first glance. I bet they wish Montgomery were still available.
