Thumbs up The Top LB Groups in the ACC

ACC Linebacker Rankings

1. North Carolina – The Tar Heels should have a very dominant front seven with the linebackers leading the way. Junior Quan Sturdivant led the nation in solo tackles last season with 87 and had 122 overall. Needless to say, Sturdivant is a tackling machine. Junior Bruce Carter is a big-time playmaker who had eleven tackles for loss and actually blocked three punts in one game last season. North Carolina is very fast and athletic at this position.

2. Miami – How about the freshman season Sean Spence had for the Hurricanes? He totaled 65 tackles and 9.5 tackles for loss in his first season and should only get better with experience. Miami will get senior Colin McCarthy back from injury. He had 68 tackles in 2007. Miami has good depth at linebacker and, as you might imagine, plenty of speed and quickness.

3. Florida State – Senior Dakota Watson, a returning starter, had eight tackles for loss last season and is the most athletic player on the Seminole football team. He is an athletic marvel who will have NFL scouts drooling. Watch out for sophomore Nigel Bradham, a former five-star recruit who is ready to make a major impact. Junior Kendall Smith is ready for bigger things as well.

4. Virginia Tech – As usual, the Hokies have playmakers at the linebacker position. Senior Cam Martin is one of the ACC’s most experienced at the position. He is entering his third season is a starter. Cody Grimm is a playmaker who had 14 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks in 2008. Sophomores Barquell Rivers and Jake Johnson are embracing bigger roles.

5. NC State – Junior Nate Irving is one of the ACC’s most feared defenders and a player who will be a national name this season. He is a versatile, athletic talent who plays with an aggressive style. Senior Ray Michael also returns and provides a veteran presence in the middle of the field. Freshman Terrell Manning got rave reviews this off-season and could make an impact.

Watch Out For – Maryland – Could be in the top five thanks to the return of junior Alex Wujciak. The All-ACC defender is the league’s leading returning tackler with 133 stops. He will be the leader of a revamped Terrapin defense. Maryland will also need a big season from junior Adrian Moten.

F.orida State has no experienced DE's. To say that Florida State has the best DL in the ACC reeks of homerism. UNC's DL is much more talented and experienced. Please do not tell me that you think Florida State is the best team in the ACC. Florida State fans are notorious homers, and we have to hear it every year. Ofcourse every year, they flop terribly. I am really hoping that you are one of the few honest Florida State fans out there.

umm, what part of this thread is about the defensive line???

try reading before you start tossing insults, bud.

now if you want to discuss the d-lines, i'd be more than happy to. unc clearly has the best d-line in the conference, imo. that said, fsu does have a shitload of talent at the position. as for best team in the conference, that honor belongs to virginia tech. they're going to be solid again this year.

NC I think is w/out a doubt No.1. I think I might put FSU ahead of Mia. But as one said before me, I think its 2A and 2B

great stuff. Glad to have some talk going going around. It will be here before you know
