Dallas Morning News writer Tim McMahon predicts Julius Jones will rush for 1,700 yards as a Seahawk in 2008.

Jones has professed his love for Qwest Field's "fast track" and has averaged 155 yards per game in Seattle. Before we get carried away, Jones has to stay injury-free, hold off Maurice Morris on 3rd downs and T.J. Duckett in short yardage, and hope Rashard Mendenhall and Jonathan Stewart don't fall to 25th in April's draft. Mar. 8

The Seahawks believe RB Julius Jones can stay on the field "across situations."

Jones is a better receiver as well as a better and more willing blocker than last year's back, Shaun Alexander. Coach Mike Holmgren said in April that the team will use a committee approach, but Jones could run with the job if he gets off to a fast start. Jun. 4 - 1:34 p.m. ET

Julius Jones will "most likely" emerge as the Seahawks' starting tailback, according to ESPN's Mike Sando.

Sando is a former Seahawks' beat writer and likely has a good handle on coach Mike Holmgren's ideal running back situation. Holmgren hasn't committed to a starter yet, but it would be a big upset if Jones doesn't start on opening day and end up with more touches than Maurice Morris. This still isn't a position to invest in for more than RB3 production. Jun. 18 - 5:35 p.m. ET

Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren met with Julius Jones and Maurice Morris to inform them of his plan to have them split carries this season.

Holmgren says they took it well and might rotate starts during the season, then he'd "ride the hot hand." Jones has more natural ability than Morris, but MoMo has been in the offense longer and knows all the assignments. Jones should end up with more touches, but is too risky to draft as an RB2. Holmgren had a history of good receiving backs until Shaun Alexander came along. Julius Jones and Maurice Morris can both catch the ball, but the planned timeshare will hurt their value more than the potential increase in receptions will help. Aug. 1

Kevin Smith - RB - Lions

Rookie Kevin Smith ran with the Lions' starting offense at Sunday's practice.

Smith outperformed Tatum Bell in Detroit's exhibition opener and has possibly moved ahead of Bell on the depth chart. Coach Rod Marinelli says not to read into it, though. "We’re just working guys," Marinelli said. Still, it should be no surprise if Smith starts for the Lions on opening day. Aug. 10
