Bengals coach Marvin Lewis says the drafting of three wideouts is all about opening up room for the running game.

"It says we want to run the football," Lewis said. "We don’t want [defenses] to cram up on us at the line of scrimmage with only two wide receivers." The plan appears to be to use three and four wide receiver sets in a spread offense to draw defensive backs out of the box. Whether that plan includes Chad Johnson remains to be seen, but it's good news for Carson Palmer. May. 2 - 3:23 p.m. ET

	Bengals RBs: Perry to back up starter Rudi?

	The reason the Bengals didn't draft a running back is because Chris Perry is healthy and ready to play this year. Rudi Johnson is expected to return to his feature back role, and Perry could return to his 2005 complementary role if he can remain healthy this season. That's a brobdignagian "if." This scenario would leave Kenny Watson as little more than insurance. No discussions were held Friday with the agent for Shaun Alexander, and the Cincinnati Enquirer believes no deal is forthcoming. Rudi Johnson - RB - Bengals

Bengals coordinator Bob Bratkowski plans to use a running back committee this season with Rudi Johnson as his lead runner.

Kenny Watson, Chris Perry, and DeDe Dorsey are behind Rudi on the depth chart, likely in that order heading to camp. Watson was easily the Bengals' most effective and consistent back in 2007, but Dorsey brings tremendous explosion (8.7 YPC average last year). This is a fantasy situation to avoid.
