Frank Gore says he's completely healed from the high ankle sprain that plagued him throughout 2007.
Gore expects to work out of the slot some in new coordinator Mike Martz's offense. After looking at Mad Mike's playbook, Gore said it reminded him of Norv Turner's and said (2006 under Turner) "was the best year of my career." New Niners offensive coordinator Mike Martz isn't worried about RB Frank Gore withstanding the pounding that comes from a heavy workload.

There has been quite a bit of hand-wringing over Gore's surgically repaired knees in some fantasy circles, but Martz believes he is "a guy you can pound without worrying if he'll hold up." Martz has vowed to build his offense around Gore this season. May. 2 - 4:08 p.m. ET

Michael Robinson - RB - 49ers

Frank Gore says new OC Mike Martz has installed several packages that will put him in the backfield with Michael Robinson.
Using Robinson as a fullback is an idea the Niners probably should've had some time ago. He has the athleticism and mentality to be an effective lead blocker. Robinson is also sound versus the blitz and can catch passes. May. 4 - 6:35 p.m. ET

The 49ers' goal for Frank Gore this season is to get him 25 touches a game (20 carries + five catches).
That would add up to 320 carries and 80 receptions; LaDainian Tomlinson led the NFL with 375 touches in 2007. 400 touches for Gore probably won't happen, but Gore should hit more big plays facing fewer defenders in the box and see his catch total rise dramatically. In an effort to get into better shape, Frank Gore has dropped 10 pounds and has his weight down to 214.

When Marshall Faulk talks, Gore listens. Gore is doing everything Faulk tells him to do, and Faulk advised a playing weight of around 212 pounds for Mike Martz's offense. It is hoped that Martz's use of three- and four-receiver sets and motion will keep defenses from loading up against Gore as they did religiously last season. Aug. 6

According to 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz, the only player guaranteed a minimum number of touches is RB Frank Gore.

Martz didn't get into specifics, but he did say, "Frank has to touch the ball. He's got to be one of the very, very elite in this league." It's clear by now that Martz's sketchy running game history is no threat to Gore's value. Sep. 12
