He can run straight ahead, but reportedly can't cut yet. He can be taken off the PUP list at any time, but needs to be ready a few weeks before the season to get into football shape. The Lions are disputing a Detroit-area radio report that Kevin Jones will stay on PUP and miss the first six games of the regular season.
However, the Detroit Free Press says it's a very real possibility that the Lions will keep Jones on the list. Jones admitted Tuesday his foot is not 100 percent and that he's out of shape. As time goes by, Jones appears less and less likely to be available for the first six games. Aug. 10 - 3:10 p.m. ET

The Detroit News' Mike O'Hara says he'll be surprised if Kevin Jones beats out Tatum Bell to be the Lions' Week 1 starter.

O'Hara also says it'll surprise him if Jones begins the season on the active roster. There was a report Saturday that Jones is running at full speed and making cuts, but the Lions aren't confident enough in his recovery to allow Jones to take part in hitting drills. He's looking doubtful for opening day. Aug. 12

A surgeon said Thursday that it would be fine for the Lions to expect Jones to contribute within the first six weeks of the season. It seems unlikely that he'll play in Week 1, but he'll likely be a starter by mid-season. Upgrade Jones about one round on your cheatsheets if you haven't drafted already. Had Jones gone on PUP, he wouldn't have been able to do anything for six weeks. If he's indeed able to take part in full practices soon, he could be closer to returning than initially thought. Still, he's unlikely to see action in the first several games. Sep. 3 - 9:22 a.m. ET

After getting just four touches in his season debut Sunday, Kevin Jones said that he hopes to "have more of the load next week."

"I'm comfortable," Jones said. "They just have to be comfortable with having me in there, making sure I'm OK. I guess my safety's first. I've just got to have another good week of practice." Aside from punching it into the end zone on his first carry, Jones' return was uneventful and likely signals that he's at least another week away from being a fantasy factor. Sep. 24

Despite a local report earlier this week that Kevin Jones was ready for more carries, FoxSports.com's John Czarnecki reports Tatum Bell will be Detroit's lead back Sunday.
The Czar says Jones has experienced more soreness in his foot. Like most of Czar's Sunday morning playing time missives, this one should be taken with a grain of salt. With that said, this is one reason to bench Jones if you couldn't decide this week. He's still a decent flex play. Oct. 7

The Lions have informed Kevin Jones that he will regain his starting job following the team's Week 6 bye.

It was about time. Jones simply adds more to the offense than Tatum Bell could. If Bell is dealt, T.J. Duckett figures to become Jones' primary backup. The Lions have shown enough faith in Jones as a short-yardage back and he's such a superior player that Duckett isn't a huge threat. Jones should approach RB2 value, especially in PPR leagues, during the second half. Oct. 12 - 4:42 p.m. ET

	Kevin Jones suffered a tear of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), but it's uncertain whether it's partial or complete tear. The Lions must wait for the swelling in his knee to subside, but it doesn't sound good. If Jones needs surgery, which sounds likely, he will miss another offseason after recovering from a Lisfranc fracture in his foot this year. 	Kevin Jones underwent surgery to repair his torn ACL on Thursday. He faces four to six months of rehab. The surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews, who expects Jones to be ready in time for training camp in late July. Based on what we know about ACL recoveries, this all seems optimistic. Jones is months behind guys like Ronnie Brown who was hurt early in the year, and Lions are implementing a different offense under new coordinator Jim Colletto. He also thinks Detroit shouldn't have to add another back, something both coach Rod Marinelli and OC Jim Colletto have hinted at strongly.
