12-time Pro Bowler Shields decides to retire
Will Shields - G - KC - Apr. 15 - 8:17 p.m. ET
Chiefs G Will Shields announced his retirement on his web site Sunday.
Not a surprise, but still a huge blow to Larry Johnson and a disintegrating Chiefs offensive line. Shields, 35, seems certain to become the eighth guard to make the Hall of Fame after 12 straight Pro Bowls. He started the final 223 games of his career and won the 2003 Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

Kansas City Chiefs shopping Larry Johnson?
Larry Johnson - RB - KC - Apr. 21 - 9:47 a.m. ET
The Kansas City Star reports the Chiefs have shopped Larry Johnson.
Run him into the ground, then move him; sounds good. Johnson still has plenty of value, although teams looking to acquire him will be on the hook to sign Johnson long term. L.J. probably won't be traded in the end.

L.J. subject of 'general trade discussions'
Larry Johnson - RB - KC -
NFL Network's Adam Schefter confirms the Chiefs have had "general trade discussions" regarding Larry Johnson.
Kansas City has reportedly spoken with the Browns, Bills, Titans, and Packers, though the Chiefs deny that any of the talks have been "specific." We suspect the Chiefs are willing to deal Johnson for multiple picks, and not necessarily a first-rounder, to address their long list of needs.

This is BIG news, especially if you are in a league who gets credited with points for each reception.......

Chiefs want L.J. more involved in pass game
Larry Johnson - RB - KC - May. 31 - 7:40 a.m. ET
The Chiefs want Larry Johnson to catch more passes in 2007.
He was averaging roughly four catches-per-game through the first six weeks of 2006 before an inexplicable late-season drop off. Coach Herm Edwards says L.J. is polishing his route running and should catch 60 balls this year.

Larry Johnson: I'm prepared to hold out
Larry Johnson - RB - KC - Jun. 21
Larry Johnson says he is prepared to hold out of training camp if he doesn't have a new contract.
This storm has been brewing for a while. LJ is set to make only $1.7 million this season and was dangled in trades in April. The notoriously thrifty Chiefs may be unwilling to pay Johnson even Frank Gore-type money because of his attitude and heavy workload. The Chiefs are in a strong position here, and Johnson may have to accept a below market deal. It wouldn't surprise us if Johnson does hold out, but the chances on it extending to the season and affecting his fantasy value are still fairly slim.

Larry Johnson - RB - Chiefs

The Kansas City Star's Jason Whitlock sees a trade of Larry Johnson as a "legitimate possibility."
Whitlock doesn't think L.J. and his agent will ask for less than $25 million in bonuses once contract talks get underway. He says the Hunt family has only offered $14-15 million. Green Bay is believed to be interested in Johnson. Jul. 15 - 10:46 a.m. ET

LJ officially begins holdout
Larry Johnson - RB - KC - Jul. 27 - 1:43 p.m. ET
Larry Johnson did not report to training camp, making good on his promise to hold out if he didn't receive a contract extension.
The two sides appear to be very far apart. The Chiefs haven't made an offer to the disgruntled back in almost two months, but his starting job is obviously still safe. The Chiefs would likely turn to a committee if Johnson was to miss time.

Chiefs, Johnson close to contract agreement
Larry Johnson - RB - KC - Aug. 13 - 4:27 p.m. ET
The Chiefs and Larry Johnson are close to agreeing on a contract extension.
The Kansas City Star says the sides could reach an accord sometime this week. Johnson has held out of all training camp work thus far, with Michael Bennett and Kolby Smith splitting time in his place. A source told the Star that Johnson could even be at Arrowhead Stadium for Thursday's tilt vs. Miami.

Larry Johnson - RB - Chiefs

Larry Johnson told the AP Wednesday that he doesn't think he'll be ready for a full workload in time for the Chiefs' regular-season opener.
Johnson doesn't expect to be in full football-playing shape by September 9, when Kansas City squares off against Houston. "What I know about myself is I've never been a fast starter coming out of the blocks in a season," he said. We still wouldn't hesitate to start L.J. in such a favorable matchup. Larry Johnson - RB - Chiefs

Coach Herm Edwards vows to get Larry Johnson the ball more in Week 2 after giving him 17 touches in the Chiefs' opener.
"He’s got a game under his belt now," Edwards said Tuesday. "We’ve got to run the ball better. We have to run the football as an offense 30 times. We have to get him some more carries." K.C. faces Chicago Sunday afternoon. Sep. 12 - 12:15 a.m. ET

Larry Johnson missed practice Wednesday on a team decision.
The Chiefs may be prepping L.J. for a big increase in touches by making sure he's fresh early in the week. Johnson will return to practice Thursday. Sep. 19 - 4:36 p.m. ET

Larry Johnson says he's back in top football-playing shape and is ready to carry the ball more going forward.
So far, L.J. only has 26 carries, which would've been a slow week for him in 2006. "I’m definitely back to where I should be," Johnson said. "The Chicago game is where I really wanted to pick it up. I know I only got 16 carries, but I was still ready to roll (in the fourth quarter). I could’ve kept going and going. But because of the point (differential), I had to pass." Sep. 22

Larry Johnson held out of another practice
Larry Johnson - RB - KC - Sep. 27 - 4:35 p.m. ET
Larry Johnson (hamstring) missed practice for the second straight day Thursday.
The Chiefs haven't ruled Larry out for Week 4, but when asked if he thought L.J. would play, coach Herm Edwards responded: "I don’t know that. I would say he is (likely to go)." Michael Bennett would pick up a start if Johnson sits, with rookie Kolby Smith being a candidate for goal-line carries. Sunday's matchup at San Diego makes both backups unattractive fantasy pickups.

Larry Johnson participated fully in practice on Friday and is listed as probable.
Johnson should play on Sunday, but his match-up against the Chargers isn't a great one. Still, LJ is a must-play. Sep. 28 - 6:01 p.m. ET

The Kansas City Star suggests that Larry Johnson may not be 100 percent for Sunday's matchup with the Chargers.
Johnson didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday due to a hamstring injury. He did return on Friday, but Michael Bennett is prepared to play extensively if L.J. is still sore Sunday. Johnson is sittable in a very poor matchup. Sep. 29 - 12:36 p.m. ET

Chiefs coach Herm Edwards says Larry Johnson will continue to miss practice on Wednesdays going forward.

Chiefs now say L.J. has mid-foot sprain
Larry Johnson - RB - KC - Nov. 5
The Chiefs are now calling the injury Larry Johnson suffered in Week 9 against Kansas City a mid-foot sprain. The team expects to know the injury's exact extent on Tuesday.
"They're running some more tests," coach Herm Edwards said late Monday. "He came in to get treatment, but they took an MRI and they're still studying it." Foot sprains can be multiple-week injuries, but this diagnosis would be better than a break. Priest Holmes is likely to start in Week 10 vs. Denver.

Edwards says LJ unlikely to play in Week 10
Larry Johnson - RB - KC - Nov. 6
Chiefs Head coach Herm Edwards said it is unlikely that Larry Johnson (foot) will play in Week 10.
It will be difficult for him to play this week," said Edwards after he received preliminary results regarding Johnson's foot and ankle. Edwards added, "He’s got a swollen foot...that’s not good." Johnson, who was injured in Week 9, will have further examinations and could miss more than one game. Priest Holmes likely will start and has a great matchup against the Broncos. RB Kolby Smith will also get carries.

Report: Larry Johnson to miss season
Larry Johnson - RB - KC - Nov. 6
MyFox 31 in Denver is reporting that Larry Johnson has suffered a broken bone in his foot and will miss the rest of the season. We have confirmed separately that Johnson is waiting for final confirmation of the news to arrive Wednesday.
No other major site is confirming the news yet, but sources close to Johnson are expecting the worst. If Johnson is indeed done for the season, Priest Holmes would get the first chance to take the lead back role in Johnson's absence, with Kolby Smith also seeing significant time. Don't drop Johnson until this can be confirmed by the Chiefs.

Chiefs: L.J. making 'significant improvement'
Larry Johnson - RB - KC - Nov. 8
The Chiefs have released a statement regarding Larry Johnson's foot injury, saying L.J. has made "significant improvement." NFL Network's Adam Schefter says Johnson is "day to day" and the Chiefs are hopeful he cou
"According to our Chiefs medical staff and its most recent evaluation of Larry Johnson last evening, Larry has made significant improvement with less swelling and pain," the statement reads. "His status will be re-evaluated again early next week with further exams and tests. His status for this week is doubtful to out." Doctors may not know the exact extent of L.J.'s injury until the swelling subsides completely. It's possible the Chiefs, who haven't exactly been transparent with RB injuries in the past, are misleading the press. Regardless of what happens, fantasy owners need to hold on to LJ to see what happens.
