Look for Alfonso Soriano to be heading to the DL

Soriano rode his first-inning hop, skip and a jump all the way to the hospital Tuesday night for an MRI exam, the results of which are expected by today. But Piniella conceded Tuesday night, ''It'll probably be awhile.''


If Soriano is going to be sidelined for a couple of weeks, this might not be the worst time. He's off to just a .175 start this season, it's early enough that the Cubs might benefit from seeing what others can do in his absence, and the weather should be warmer by the time he returns.


Until then, outfielder Matt Murton probably will get the call from Class AAA Iowa today to replace Soriano. And Tuesday's emergency replacement, second baseman Mark DeRosa, could see a lot of the playing time in left field despite his relative inexperience there.

And one of my teams just keeps getting worse. At least I can plug Lastings Milledge in while Soriano is out.

I wish they would get him out of the leadoff spot. Needs to bat 2nd or third.
