| Oliver Perez returns to Pirates camp after Impressive WBC | News: Oliver Perez returned to camp Saturday after spending most of this month with Mexico in the World Baseball Classic. He couldn't pitch Mexico into the semifinals, but he won't have any trouble remembering his only start in the inaugural Classic. Mexico 2, United States 1. Winning pitcher: Oliver Perez. Losing pitcher: Roger Clemens. "Everybody knows it might be the last game he's going to throw," Perez said Saturday. "He's such a tough guy in pitching. We're not thinking about winning against Roger Clemens, we were thinking about just seeing him, that it's maybe the last game - and that we won. That was fun for Mexico." Perez pitched three scoreless innings against the U.S., allowing one hit and walking one. His velocity isn't where the Pirates want it to be, but manager Jim Tracy was impressed with his competitiveness and how he responded to the challenge. "I saw a guy, when I watched on television, who really liked the arena he was in," Tracy said. "He had a face on him that said, `I accept this challenge here.' You like that." | Analysis: In CBS SportsLine.com's NL-only experts 5x5 Rotisserie draft, Perez was selected with the final pick in the sixth round (72nd overall). Consider Perez a potentially high-end sleeper in Fantasy leagues this season. |
