Default Reggie Bush Fantasy 2008

Reggie Bush - RB - Saints

Saints coach Sean Payton promises to use Reggie Bush on punt returns more this season.
Bush's special teams duties were scaled back after Deuce McAllister tore his ACL in 2007. Bush has averaged only 7.4 yards per return in his first two years, but this would still improve his value in return-yardage leagues. Jun. 1 - 2:10 p.m. ET

Reggie Bush - RB - Saints

The Biloxi Sun Herald guesses that Reggie Bush will get 215 carries and 85 receptions this season.
The paper also guesses that Bush will total 1,700 yards and 13 TDs, which would make him a first-round fantasy pick. We're not sure about the totals (especially the scores), but Bush is setup for a career-high workload if he stays healthy. Deuce McAllister is unlikely to be an impact player and the Saints don't seem ready to give Pierre Thomas a major role just yet. Jul. 20 - 5:27 p.m. ET

The Saints are giving Reggie Bush a chance to be their primary punt returner.

Report: Bush 'no sure thing' to face Panthers
Reggie Bush - RB - NO - Oct. 16 - 5:10 p.m. ET
NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Reggie Bush (knee) is "no sure thing" to face the Panthers in Week 7.
The official injury report lists Bush as having had "no practice" Thursday, but he did individual drills and coach Sean Payton referred to Bush as having been "limited." Still, if Bush's knee is swelling on Friday and into the weekend, he could wind up as a full-blown game-time decision.

Saints dub Bush, Shockey, Colston 'probable'
Reggie Bush - RB - NO - Oct. 17 - 3:00 p.m. ET
Reggie Bush (knee), Jeremy Shockey (groin), and Marques Colston (thumb) are all listed as probable for Week 7 against Carolina. They all practiced on a limited basis Friday.
According to NFL rules, the probable listing means players are "virtually certain" to be available for normal duty. The Saints are whipping out their guns in a key road division game at Carolina. Coach Sean Payton says Bush is "100 percent" and will not have his role lessened in the return game.

Report: Bush has knee surgery, out 2-4 weeks
Reggie Bush - RB - NO - Oct. 20 - 1:27 p.m. ET
Orthopedic Dr. James Andrews performed surgery on the medial meniscus in Reggie Bush's left knee Monday, according to Profootballtalk.com. Bush is expected to miss 2-4 weeks.
The surgery was arthroscopic and 2-4 weeks is the normal recovery time from that procedure. PFT suggests that Bush could miss more time to ensure he's 100%, although the Saints would probably have to start winning for that to be a possibility. Deuce McAllister will start while Bush is out.

Report: Reggie Bush most likely out 4 weeks
Reggie Bush - RB - NO - Oct. 22 - 1:09 p.m. ET
ESPN's John Clayton reports that Reggie Bush will likely miss four weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery Monday.
Dr. James Andrews told Bush to not rush back and try to make the optimistic end of his 2-4 week timetable. Four weeks amounts to three missed games for Bush, as the Saints have a Week 9 bye. Deuce McAllister is in line to start versus San Diego, at Atlanta in Week 10, and at Kansas City in Week 11.

Bush 'decidedly questionable' to face Chiefs
Reggie Bush - RB - NO - Nov. 13 - 2:50 p.m. ET
Reggie Bush (knee) took part in no phases of practice Thursday. The New Orleans Times-Picayune calls his status for Week 11 "decidedly questionable."
While Saints coach Sean Payton says Bush didn't have a setback after practicing Wednesday, all bets are off on whether he will face the Chiefs. If he does play he'll be at less than 100 percent. Fantasy owners with safer options should strongly consider reserving Bush for one more week.

Saints rule out Reggie Bush against Chiefs
Reggie Bush - RB - NO - Nov. 14 - 2:36 p.m. ET
The Saints have ruled out Reggie Bush (knee) for Week 11.
This is the best move for New Orleans and fantasy owners, who now don't have to gamble on Bush at less than full tilt. Duece McAllister will start at the Chiefs and Aaron Stecker will play on passing downs. The Saints should have Bush back at near 100 percent versus Green Bay next Monday night.

Report: Ruling on Deuce expected next week
Deuce McAllister - RB - NO - Nov. 18

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the rulings on suspensions for Saints RB Deuce McAllister, DE Will Smith, and DT Charles Grant are expected to be announced early next week.
The same goes for three star Vikings defensive linemen facing suspension: Kevin Williams, Pat Williams, and Jared Allen. All of the players should therefore be available for Week 12 action. Reading between the lines, the Saints' recent running back moves could be a sign that they believe Deuce's suspension will not be overturned.

Bush limited Saturday, remains questionable
Reggie Bush - RB - NO - Nov. 22

Reggie Bush (knee) returned to a "limited" practice on Saturday, but is still listed as questionable for Monday night's game against Green Bay.
Bush wouldn't commit to playing, which isn't encouraging. "It's been tough, just being out in general," he said. "I wish the progress was a little faster, but you can't rush Mother Nature." Coach Sean Payton expects Pierre Thomas and newly signed Mike Bell to "get a lot of touches, along with Deuce (McAllister)." It sounds like Bush will be limited if he plays. Thomas is a fair bet to lead New Orleans' backfield for the second straight week.

Saints fully expect Bush to face Buccaneers
Reggie Bush - RB - NO - Nov. 28 - 5:41 p.m. ET
Reggie Bush (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 13, but Saints coach Sean Payton said Friday that he fully expects Bush to face the Bucs.
Bush's practice was limited, but he did the most work he's done since tearing his meniscus in Week 7 and made it through the week without setbacks. Expect Pierre Thomas to maintain a large role as New Orleans' short-yardage and change-of-pace back, but Bush to see 18-20 touches. The Saints likely wouldn't be bringing Bush back if they planned to "limit" him.

Report: Saints will get Bush back Sunday
Reggie Bush - RB - NO - Nov. 30 - 9:52 a.m. ET
NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Reggie Bush (questionable, knee) will play Sunday against the Bucs.
Schefter suggests the Saints will play it safe with Reggie in his return after a five-week absence and might pull him if he doesn't feel right early. This is a little hard to imagine, though, because players usually don't make it through warmups and get put on the game-day roster just to be "tried out" early in the game. If Bush is active, he should be in fantasy lineups.

NFL suspends six: Deuce and Williamses done
Deuce McAllister - RB - NO - Dec. 2

NFL suspended Deuce McAllister, Saints DE Charles Grant, Saints DE Will Smith, Vikings DT Kevin Williams, Vikings DT Pat Williams, and Texans LS Brian Pittman for the final four games of the regular season for violating the league's steroid and related substances policy.
Good thing Deuce already set the franchise record for scores because his NFL career may sadly be over. Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush will continue to carry the load for New Orleans. The news primarily effects opposing rushers of Minnesota: Kevin Smith, Tim Hightower, and Michael Turner the next three weeks. Hugely upgrade their matchups. One or more of the players may seek legal action to delay the suspensions; we should find out the result of that appeal soon.
