Default Ronnie Brown/Ricky Williams Fantasy 2008

Ricky in shape, to share carries with Ronnie?
Ricky Williams - RB - MIA - May. 15
Ricky Williams showed up to offseason workouts in "tip-top shape" and indicated he thinks the Dolphins will use a committee at running back this season.
Williams says he turned down Cedric Benson's invitation to join him for a recent Lake Travis boating trip. Smart move. In their first meeting, Ricky says Bill Parcells told him he'll share carries with Ronnie Brown this year. Parcells and coach Tony Sparano have long been fans of running back committees.

Ronnie Brown running, cutting on knee
Ronnie Brown - RB - MIA - May. 21 - 2:55 p.m. ET
Ronnie Brown (ACL surgery) and Ricky Williams (torn pectoral) both carried the ball and participated in most team drills during Wednesday's OTAs.
Brown went through team drills and made sharp cuts on his surgically repaired knee. This is a great sign early the offseason, but we won't know anything significant until he starts getting hit in pre-season action. Williams looms as a potential time-share threat for the 2008 season.

Ricky Williams - RB - Dolphins

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly says Ricky Williams has been the most impressive Dolphins player in practices.
Kelly expects Williams to have a very good year and reports that the 31-year-old has been "beating everyone to the corner on sweeps." The obvious no-contact caveat applies, but Kelly noticed Ricky "has an extra gear the other backs don't." With each passing week, it's becoming more and more clear that 2008 will see a committee approach in Miami. Jun. 7 - 11:31 a.m. ET

Ronnie Brown - RB - Dolphins

Ronnie Brown returned to 11-on-11 team drills for the first time since suffering his season-ending knee injury last year.
It's a great sign that Brown will be ready to participate in training camp. "The knee's doing real well and I look forward to going through training camp and being able to participate in that. By the time September rolls around I'll be 100 percent," he said. Jun. 12 - 3:42 p.m. ET

Ronnie Brown - RB - Dolphins

Though he made all the necessary cuts and bursts during drills, Ronnie Brown admits he doesn't yet "trust" his right knee.
"I'm trying to get over the mental part of it, get everything flowing and react out of instinct instead of trying to think [about the injury]," said Brown. The mental hurdle is normal in ACL recoveries, but keep in mind that it's also normal for running backs to take a year to fully recover. Jul. 26 - 9:07 p.m. ET

Ronnie Brown - RB - Dolphins

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano has yet to decide who is better suited to being a starter between Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.
Sparano likes Williams' energy when he comes in for Brown, and he compared the situation to the Cowboys "two-headed monster" with Marion Barber bringing energy behind Julius Jones. Brown remains a great player who will excel once he's fully healthy, but it's clear that he's going to lose significant value to Ricky early in the season. Aug. 15 - 10:43 a.m. ET

A Fantasy Player's Nightmare.........

Ronnie, Ricky could have even split vs. Jets
Ronnie Brown - RB - MIA - Sep. 6
Ricky Williams expects to share carries evenly with Ronnie Brown in Week 1 against the Jets.
"We're both going to get the same number of carries," said Williams, who will start. Coach Tony Sparano says Ronnie will "be in the game very soon" after Ricky. The Dolphins' goal-line back remains to be seen, but a 50:50 split appears quite possible after Brown turned in a strong week of practice.

Ronnie works ahead of Ricky on Wednesday
Ronnie Brown - RB - MIA - Sep. 10
Ronnie Brown worked ahead of Ricky Williams at Dolphins practice Wednesday.
The Dolphins' staff has made formal depth chart switches in practice at several other positions in the last few weeks (e.g. free safety, wide receiver) and we could have another one here. Williams took first-team handoffs throughout training camp and the preseason. While a carry split is still certain for Week 2, Brown is the more valuable fantasy back if he's starting.
