| Yankees Pavano throws bullpen session | News: According to the New York Post, Carl Pavano threw a 35-pitch bullpen session yesterday at Legends Field and is on course to throw batting practice tomorrow. It will be his first BP session of the spring and may be done without an L screen in front of him and with batters standing in the batter's box but not swinging. "Right now he is finishing so well we don't want the screen in his way," Torre said of Pavano's delivery. Torre said Pavano would likely need three batting practice sessions before pitching in a game and he would require two days between sessions. | Analysis: Earlier this week, Joe Torre said the Yankees are comfortable with the idea of Pavano starting the season on the disabled list. "We have enough days off at the start that we don't need a fifth pitcher for two weeks," he said. "Hopefully that will be where he slots in." If he can stay healthy, he'd be a nice mixed-league starter again with a great lineup getting leads for him. He's off to a slow start this spring, though, and slipped to Round 14 (163rd overall) in the 12-team, 30-round CBS SportsLine.com AL-only experts league. Don't be shocked if he starts the season on the DL. |
