| Great to have the golf season back in full swing * * hope some more cappers show up and lets have a winningest season!Written By JamiePower. Tournament Information The Mercedes Benz Championship Plantation Course At Kapalua Par 73 Defending Champion : Stuart Appleby. The Course Kapalua is an amazing course that careens around the edge of the pacific coast line. It requires players to keep the ball in the fairway and be able to dial it in on the huge putting surfaces. The greens are large but very difficult to judge and read. A hot putter and a straight driver is needed to win in Maui. The Field & Odds Wow, I was shocked to see these big of numbers by some of the players names. Your almost getting 10:1 on a three time consecutive champion. It is often easy to pick the top 5 in these short field events early in the season because the ones who have performed in the past will dominate again. I have in bold some of my leans to win outright. 101 J. Furyk +453 102 V. Singh +741 103 S. Appleby +951 104 A. Scott +1098 105 L. Donald +1318 106 G. Ogilvy +1330 107 T. Immelman +1262 108 D. Toms +2402 109 K.J. Choi +3111 110 D. Love III +3103 111 J. Durant +3292 112 R. Sabbatini +4188 113 C. Campbell +3127 114 A. Baddeley +5162 115 S. Ames +4529 116 C. Pettersson +7070 117 J. Senden +5555 118 A. Oberholser +3526 119 R. Pampling +4122 120 J.J. Henry +4242 121 B. Wetterich +6907 122 D. Wilson +8102 123 T. Matteson +6262 124 J. Rollins +12121 125 C. Pavin +12121 126 JB. Holmes +8282 127 B. Curtis +8282 128 E. Axley +8282 129 D.J. Trahan +13434 130 K. Triplett +13434 131 T. Herron +11111 132 J. Maggert +15252 134 W. MacKenzie +13454 135 C. Couch +15252 Head To Head Matches Worth Betting Some very nice head to head matches are listed in this weeks tournament. Alot have some very profitable underdogs. J. Furyk -157 vs S. Appleby +149 300 to win 447 Stuart Appleby in my mind is the one player who is going to give everything he has into this tournament, he is attempting to tie Tiger with a record that only he holds, 4 In A Row. Jim Furyk is simply here to get his rhythm. He is listed as a favourite because of his history, 26 rounds of 28 played at Kapalua were par or better. However, how many tournaments did he win? ( Its less than 1 and more than -1, I think you can figure it out ) Appleby has nailed 3 in a row. J. Durant +122 vs K.J. Choi -130 500 to win 620 Another noodlescratcher here, Joe Durant finished the season as the hottest player on tour, and he is a +122 dog against K.J Choi of all people. Durant is on a big hot streak and looks to add an 11th top 10 finish in a row. Consistency that carries over from 2 months ago should do the trick for Durant here. J. Furyk -150 vs. V. Singh +139 100 to win 139 Vijay Singh has finished 2nd place in 2006 and 2004 and finished 4th in 2005 to Stuart Appleby. Just because Jim Furyk is the highest ranked golfer in the field doesn’t mean he is a win, that’s the same for all golfers in tournaments Tiger isn’t in. The truth is Furyk's power, wait Jim Furyk doesn’t have any power. In Kapalua you need power to overcome the course and not to mention the longest hole on tour, the 664 yard Par5 18th. He has had good success at this even in the past but looks and feels old. For god sakes he almost broke himself when he tried to imitate Camillio Villegas in and event last year. He will play a solid top 10 tournament but I don't see him as the one to beat. I wouldn’t rely on anyone’s short game this early in the season. Vijay has enough power and enough accuracy, not to mention consistency at this event and history to back it up to place high in the tournament. Who Will Win It All Stuart Appleby +951 100 to win 951 I have to go with the man who should be the favourite here. With huge odds in the 951 number Stuart Appleby has proven he has what it takes to dominate the early season and get his fame before the big guys come roaring out. His consistent well rounded playing style suits every aspect of this course and he too has the potential to BOOM it, (No pun intended..-Bridgestone Golf Joke). With a lot on the line, 1.7 million, and a share of the record that has only been broken once since 1930. Oh yeah not to mention a 4th Benz in his garage, Stuart should come out the usual way posting a 71-72 followed by 3 similar numbers and continue the Australian Bang in the PGA. Dark Horses Adam Scott +1098 10 to win 100.98 A Tiger like swing that was perfected in the off season with posture help could be all Adam Scott needs to continue off where he ended the season, winning the TOUR Championship by 3 strokes. Watch for Scott this weekend. Only a small play here. Trevor Immelman +1262 10 to win 126.2 The Rookie of The Year and MR. Consistent is another lurker in the shadows of Singh, Furyk and Appleby. Trevor Immelman finished 5th in the TOUR Championship and had a handful of top 10 finishes last season. If he can keep consistent Trevor can be a threat this week. Another small play here. Don’t Think About It Don’t touch the following with a 10 foot pole, Geoff Ogilvy Chad Campbell Rory Sabbitinni David Toms Arron Baddley Good Luck Everyone, hope this helped out anyone thinking of placing golf bets. Feedback, any type is great! |
