NHL is playing an outdoor hockey game on January 1, in Buffalo. Grew up playing under the stars. Really a good idea. They're playing in the Bills stadium, with setup after the Bills last game. What if they make the playoffs?

Well guess the NHL knew something many fans didn't about the Bills! Its a nice idea, but it isn't as ideal as Edmonton. Edmonton was on a night that was guaranteed below freezing, Edmonton had never had a night on that date where it wasn't. Buffalo on the other hand has had almost half the New Years Days with above freezing temps plus the biggest worry they could have a lake effect blizzard which would make TV viewing horrendous, not to mention hard to see the players doing well with snow and wind in their faces all game. Lets hope it all works out, its a great idea that supposedly is selling a ton of tickets.
Who knows someday the NHL will get ridiculous and have a Ducks or Panthers game on the beach or something ridiculous like that. |

people will show up - i guess they sold out the game already - but not the best day to do it. i woulda done this the weekend off between the Conf Semis and Super Bowl and not a day when there are 25 billion CFB games played and some people are still shit faced from the night before |

Agreed Winky - need lots of alcohol in Buffalo to stay warm - problem might be the four feet of snow in the stands and on the ice.

I am from Buffalo. Let me tell you guys that their is no other city in the country like this one. It is not the shithole that the other cities make us out to be. This game on january 1 is going to be awesome. Sabre fans are the the best in the NHL. Last year the highest viewing ratings for the stanley cup finals came from buffalo. Just cause we wanted to see ottawa lose. We were voted 1 francise in america in espn magazine. Sabre fans are die hard. The only thing that can beat them are bills fans. The ralph is awesome for tailgating and with a outdoor hockey game their. It will be 80,000 strong of a drunken mess "let it snow". this outdoor game sold out 43,000 seats in under 15 minutes. I strongly suggest for everyone to watch. I will be something amazing. GO SABRES!!!!!

Should be fun. I'll take a good hockey game over the 5th best or whatever it is bowl game of the day on New Years. I question the choice of dates, but I love the idea. I think it could have really gotten a good ratings run if held on the weekend before the Super Bowl when nothing much exciting is on and would have fed well into a populace hungry for something to watch that weekend.
