Pittsburgh had plenty of chances to win game 4, but in the end, Detroit just wanted it more. Zetterberg's brilliant play during the time the Red Wings were down two men should become part of every hockey training film on how to kill penalties. Detroit raised their record to 60-4 when they allow two or less goals.
This series has proven, that the game of hockey has changed towards speed, but there's no accounting for experience. Not once has this Detroit team blinked in the Finals, while Pittsburgh has a number of players suffering from a lack of experience on the big stage. If one player has epitomized why Pittsburgh has proven to be too young to win the Cup, it is Malkin. They took away the younger Penguins confidence early, with shutout wins, hung around to make Game 3 closer and showed their poise and desire in Game 4 on the road. The Red Wings have played better, smarter and more under control, they deserve to be up 3-1 heading back home. Detroit is 38-13 at Joe Louis Arena, including 9-1 in the postseason. The Red Wings can smell blood and are going for the kill. The Red Wings are 9-1 when a money line favorite of more than -200 in the playoffs and it’s hard to comprehend they’ll be denied. Pittsburgh’s only chance is to make this a shootout. However, with Pittsburgh 10-2 UNDER as road underdogs, that scenario appears unlikely. Detroit Red Wings -0.5 -143*** I think the Red Wings get it done in regulation tonight. Cheers! |

A good analysis, only no one told Fleury that he could stop 53 shots in the game. Somehow I think he will play more like himself in Game 6. Wings made some uncommon mistakes in Game 5 (shooting into their own net was one) and I don't expect that again tonight. 20 shots or fewer from PIT tonight and they lose this one and the Cup goes to the Wings.

And how much are we liking the Hossa acquistion by the Red Wings here?! Using the Hasek money saved and buying a quality winger who if he has his game going (and on a one year contract why wouldn't he?!) playing with Zetterberg, Datsyuk and co. could have a MONSTER year. Wings could be a tough team to beat again (but they saod that about the Ducks last year too)

he turned down 7 years and almost $50M to play with the Pens to sign a 1-year deal worth about $7.5M? WHAT A MORON! he stands a MUCH better chance winning the Cup with Crosby then a 1-year "sniper" deal with the Wings NEVER leave $43M on the table - STUPID if he suffers a career ending injury he will be out so much money he will be laughed at forever - and deservedly so |

Winky - I agree with you from a business standpoint. If he has a career year in 2008/09, wins a Cup and scoring title, then he could be up for a huge long term deal. If he craps out, gets hurt or otherwise flops again, then he could be looking at even less. Many would look at this year as a make or break year for him financially. We'll see, but as a Fantasy Hockey Poolie, I will have his name circled as someone to watch.

and as for the Wings being the fave to repeat in 08-09 let's see them get out of the first round - something the last (i think) 6 Champs failed to do (and if not 6 - not far from it) the longer than usual post-season makes for a shorter off season and the grind gets to you come playoff time Odds the Wings win it all in 08-09: ZERO PERCENT! NONE! NADA! NIL! NYET! I'd sonner bet on the LA KIngs winning it all than the Wings - and the Kings have ZERO PRAYER of making the playoffs |

Kings have made a LOT of off-season moves and not all of them have helped in my mind. Trading Cammalleri away was a surprise to me. We'll see where we go. If I got good odds, I would put some money on the Wings. San Jose, Anaheim and Dallas all scare me however since the Wings avoided both Ducks and Sharks this past playoff season. Can Osgood really take a team for the entire year?
