she has to be one of the biggest nut jobs in a long time.
at what point did she think she would be able to have a banner at the State of the Union? She think it was Monday Night RAW or something?

She tried to unfurl a banner in the public gallery, which is apparantly a criminal offence (obviously congress was bored one day when they made that law ;-))

How dare she protest this farce that has left us impotent to deal with Iran and is enormously useless to begin with! Those 2200 dead, 16000 wounded and 252 billion(all-so far) are WELL worth installing yet another Islamfascist government in the region.

Stupid bitch lost her son, to boot.

So much for free speech.

Here's the story:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11120353/

.............Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider said Sheehan had worn a T-shirt with an antiwar slogan to the speech and covered it up until she took her seat. Police warned her that such displays were not allowed, but she did not respond, the spokeswoman said.

The T-shirt bore the words “2,245 Dead — How Many More??” in reference to the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq, protesters told NBC News..............

Fair enough..

My belief was she was invited by a democratic senator or something..

You'd never get away with something like that in the UK though. Heck at our "State of the Union" equivalent after the Queens speech where the Prime Minister sets out the foundations and plans for the year ahead, there's heckling not only from the gallery but from the opposition members of parliament!

First of all, I am not a leftist, far from it, I am very conservative. I already brought up the "fire in the movie theater" analogy and why this was different when I discussed this issue with my friend last night.

Her shirt was not disruptive and would not cause a panic or any threat to public safety. Yes, it sent a message that the party in power did not want to see, and one that the establishment on both sides may have deemed inappropriate. But it wasn't obscene or libelous by any standards, just something some didn't like to hear.

If a Bush supporter had a shirt that said "W #1" or "I love W" they would probably not have been thrown out, and if they were, nowhere near as quickly. Lots of people make political statements at the event. Have you seen how many people wear those stupid flags on their lapels? Have you noticed they have been getting bigger lately, a way of saying I'm a bigger and better American than you?

The State of the Union is joke, its time has passed. It has become nothing more than a ra rah session for the party in power.

I don't know what the case law is on attire and dress code at a government function. I can understand if you wore a shirt to a football game that they could ask you to leave since it is a private event. But this was an event in the People's House. Should the first amendment stop at the door? What if every war opponent, including Congressmen and women, wore a lapel pin with just a number, 2,245, on it, would that be allowed? As a conservative, I don't want some government bureaucrat or panel drawing that line.

I agree with what you are saying....But I am sure there was a Dress Code....The Capital Floor is not open to the people....It is open to the People's Representative's.....Not at anytime in History can anyone just go into the Capital and walk thru it Unattended....

And A Bush Supportor I am Not...I just don't pile on Like the Rest of the Others.....He was the best Alternative out there...

I am sure if they had Lapels that said 2245 on them they would be allowed...but sadly the left in this country is not that Bright....

And as for the SOU being outdated and a Rah Rah session for the party in power.....hasn't it always Been that Way??? At least in my Lifetime it has....How many times have you seen one party Praising the other???

The Bottom line is The Sheehan thing is about Respect.....If I don't agree with something you believe and you Invited me to your party....I would Respect you enough to Not do anything to Retract from what you are doing......If I couldn't do that I would Decline the Invitation....She doesn't Respect her son's death Fighting in a All VOLUNTEER ARMY....she doesn't Repect Herself, her Family or her Country.......She Abuses Every Freedom the Contitution Affords Our Citizens (and illegal aliens for that matter). She is a joke and everyone Knows it.....I wonder How much Money Michael Moore or Moveon.org Gave her last nite....
