Roloson out for rest of Cup Finals
Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers suffered a huge blow to their Stanley Cup hopes when goaltender Dwayne Roloson suffered a series- ending knee injury during their 5-4 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 1 on Monday. The play occurred late in the third period as Marc-Andre Bergeron checked Carolina's Andrew Ladd into Roloson. The three players sprawled together and the net came off its moorings. Roloson was examined by team trainers on the ice and eventually was helped off the ice and into the locker room. Oilers coach Craig MacTavish said after the game that Roloson will miss the rest of the Finals with a right knee injury. "I feel very confident that we can bounce back from it," MacTavish said of the loss of the game and his starting goaltender. "I felt that we played a solid game tonight and we can recover from this. (I) just passed on to Roly that, job well done, and it's up to us to take it from here and we're capable of doing it." The 35-year-old Roloson has been the key factor in the Oilers success in this year's Stanley Cup playoffs. Acquired at the trade deadline from the Minnesota Wild, Roloson led the eighth-seeded Oilers to series victories over the Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Roloson had posted a 12-5 record in the playoffs. Backup Ty Conklin finished the game for Edmonton and is expected to start Game 2 on Wednesday at the RBC Center. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/scorec...ticleID=167930 |
