Prussian looks to complete a hat trick in Friday's inaugural $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Monmouth Park.
In a crowded 12-horse field which will feature a pair of Irish invaders, Prussian has been tabbed the 3-1 morning-line favorite for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott. Prussian has been impressive in his first two career races, winning his debut by 6 3/4 lengths at Saratoga in August and the Summer Stakes at Woodbine on September 16. In his brief career, Prussian has shown good tactical speed, which could come in handy here since he will leave from the ninth post in the one-mile race. Kent Desormeaux, who has just two wins in 52 career Breeders' Cup mounts, will be aboard Prussian. The second-betting choice is Irish-bred Achill Island (7-2), who will be seeking his first career stakes win. Johnny Murtagh will be aboard the Aidan O'Brien-trained Achill Island, who leaves from the eighth post. Strike the Deal, who has two wins in seven career starts, is the third choice at 9-2. Frankie Dettori will ride Strike the Deal, who leaves from the fifth gate. Jeremy Nosada trains Strike the Deal. In 2004, Nosada brought Wilko over from England to win the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Lone Star Park. Another Irish hopeful is Domestic Fund (5-1), who will break from the far outside for trainer Dermot Weld. Patrick Smullen will ride. Also entered are The Leopard (8-1), Gio Ponti (8-1), Cherokee Triangle (10-1), Nownownow (10-1), Your Round (30-1), Texas Fever (30-1), Cannonball (50-1) and Preachin Man (50-1). Yahoo! |
