Reload's "Shoot Your Load" NYRA Writeup for Thursday 5/10 - 8th Race at Belmont
Lost a bit yesterday as I spread bets out through the whole Belmont card. But a winner in the 9th kept it from being a horrible day and built some momentum going into today. For today, I am focusing on only one race and for what it's worth, we might as well call it the "feature" race on the card. It's the 8th race at Belmont - going 6 furlongs on the dirt with a $49,000 purse. Small field of 7. I will use a 21 unit bankroll for this one - it seemed to fit best that way, so adjust your wagers accordingly. I am using only Win and Place bets and am bumping up the Place action because Place is bound to not pay too much with the small field. For my "Shoot Your Load" selections, I am going with... #6 Lucky Gamble - 5 units to Win, 10 units to Place #7 Lifestyle - 2 units to Win, 4 units to Place #6 Lucky Gamble has finished in the money for the past three starts against similar competition. Last time out at Belmont during the fall meet, he won at this distance and I can see it happening again here. On paper, it looks worse that he went from winning to then finishing 2nd and then 3rd, but they were hot-ly contested losses finishing just shy of pulling out the win. Although he is yet to win with Eibar Coa aboard, he has rode him in two very good outings where he finished behind the winner by less than a length each time. Third time for Coa aboard might finally be the charm here and it could be a wire to wire type of winner against this field. At 3-1 morning line odds, it is not the best bargain but the field is small here so we will take what we can get. At least, he should be a better value than the morning line favorite Hither Lane who is coming off a very long layoff. #7 Lifestyle comes into this one off of a bad outing in Keeneland, but it helps for value here. Prior to that, he finished in the money for four straight starts when being shipped to various tracks. During that stretch, the conditions were different every time out for the horse including dirt to turf and back to dirt, and distance changes. Yet through all that, John Velazquez stayed aboard for the last three starts no matter where the horse went and he's back aboard him here for a fourth straight mount. Velazquez even rode two other horses in today's race for their last respective starts, including the morning line favorite Hither Lane. But instead of those two, he is once again aboard Lifestyle and that stands for a lot in my book. I feel it could all come together in this one for Lifestyle in this one and hope for a top 2 finish here. Get your reloads in and good luck! 8th (4:40) 6 Furlongs | Open | 4 Year Olds And Up Allowance Optional Claiming ($75,000) | Purse: $49,000

Well, we've got 3 scratches and Lucky Gamble was one. Gees, down to a 4 horse field now! I will stick with #7-Lifestyle though.

Well, here's a wild finish! I was so pissed at how this 8th race went with Lifestyle coming in 4th out of 4 (it just doesn't get any worse than that). So I chased the loss in the 9th race - something I'd normally almost never do. No writeup and hardly any thought at all on it.
For the chase, I put all I lost in the 8th on Purple Aces in the 9th to Place figuring that would return about even money. He won the race (!) and paid $5.10 to Place! Shows how it just doesn't matter how much work you put into these plays sometimes. All the analysis I did for the 8th race and then I get stuck with horses scratched, a field of only 4, and I get 4th out of 4. In the 9th, no work at all on it and collect. Nice note to end the day on but sorry for being way off on the 8th. I'm looking at tomorrow's card already and even some possible "Drive Time" action for tonight at the Big M. The chase will continue! |

Well, we got some rainy and muddy action today in the northeast today. I think I will pass for a while.
Have a good weekend all! |
