Saturday Morning, 8/25/2007 We’re firmly entrenched in the steam batch across central New York. Today, instead of just waiting for the atmosphere to “boil over” we have a trigger in the atmosphere that should do a good job in setting up showers and thunderstorms. A late-day cold front. There are still some clouds around this morning, but as we head toward the midday, we should see more in the way of hazy sunshine. That sun will help to push temperatures into the 80s and low 90s. Dewpoint temperatures will remain high, mainly around 70, so there should be plenty of heat and moisture for the approaching cold front to work with. We figure any precipitation through 1 PM will be very spotty to at times non-existent. After 1 PM, the approach of the cold front should do a better job of organizing the thunderstorms. Heavy rain is likely with the storms, as well as strong gusty winds. The cold front itself is forecast to move through early tonight, followed by a return of much more comfortable air Sunday. |
