I would only expect them to be human beings and not robots. That's what this was. ANY one of them could have stopped this process and sent the bill back! They simply did not CARE!

One and done is enough for these folks.

Even one Senator can raise an objection. Sure they MAY lose, but for God sakes speak up .

One has to wonder why these folks spend millions to keep a job that pays what (150K a year). They all need to be voted out! Puppets on a string. Robots!

Most of these guys are not paying one red cent out of their own pocket
it is all money from lobbyist who are buying their votes on future bills.

And remember a recent survey showed that 40 of the 100 current senators are millionaires

If the GOP takes it up the ass thiers a good chance they bring back the "small govt" conservatives to thier platform, right now they've been taken over by Jesus freaks, a good ask kicking will change them, I know countless gamblers who are voting Dem for the first time.

Voting Democratic is not going to matter....Lobbyists still control Washington.... if these sports books really wanted to change things they would Band together and get some Lobbyists with some pull in Washington....

Receiving money and gifts from anybody over a minimal amount should be illegal.....that would be my first bill sent to Congress......

The bill was passed by acclamation. If a single senator had objected, a vote would be required. It couldn't pass a vote, because there wasn't a quorum at the senate when the revisions came out.

While I dislike a good bunch of the people running the system, it is the actual SYSTEM that is flawed.

Yeah, its easy to say that someone should have objected to the bill... But look at the advertising and campaigning that goes on during election time -- 99% of it is negative, bashing "the other guy".

Senator X objects to the gambling portion of the port authority bill... Since the gambling portion of the port authority bill isn't a separate entity, in the records Senator X is objecting to the port authority bill.

Senator Y runs a smear campaign that CORRECTLY and FACTUALLY states that Senator X voted AGAINST the Port Authority Bill that "blah blah blah keeps us safe from terrorists blah blah blah".


The system is so fucked up nowadays that no one is worried about doing the RIGHT thing, they are worried about doing whatever gives them the best chance of being RE-ELECTED -- and those two are not always the same thing.

If some of you were Senators, while it may have seemed to noble to most of you to object to the Port Authority Bill because of the gambling insert, you would have quickly ended up one noble EX-Senator.


As the rap stars say, "don't hate the playa, hate the game."

SOS... it is not just now becoming flawed... this stuff has been happening for decades....many just now recognize it because it now affects something they care about...if people followed politics and cared what happened before now it would not be this way... that is what the politicians count on.... and Uninformed public...

They are more than happy to watch the big public companies pull out.

Carib's goal doesn't matter. The Repubs are in for a very rude awakening come Tuesday. I know a ton of life long republicans who are voting democrat - these are people who have never voted democrat. I don't know one person who plans to vote republican right now. We'll see what happens, but I don't think it is gonna be pretty for the repubs...

actually if they banded all of the gamblers together to vote as a bloc, like the nra did with gun owners, we'd probably have u.s. offices for all of the books.
