Muslims Protest Changes To Rape Laws In Pakistan

Islamists debate rape law moves
Pakistan’s six-party opposition Islamic alliance is threatening a campaign of countrywide protests over amendments to the country’s strict rape laws.
The MMA alliance says its members will resign from national and provincial assemblies after MPs voted that rape should no longer fall under Sharia law.
President Pervez Musharraf in a television speech said the Islamists were isolated on the issue.
The Sharia laws have been widely criticised by human rights groups.
The lower house of the parliament voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to amend the controversial Sharia law that dates back to 1979.
Until now, rape cases were dealt with in Sharia courts. Victims had to have four male witnesses to the crime - if not, they faced prosecution for adultery.
‘US pressure’

Under the amended law, the civil courts will be able to try rape cases according to the British-influenced penal code.
The MMA parties boycotted the vote, saying the bill encouraged "free sex".
They also accuse President Musharraf of pleasing foreign powers.
In its Thursday meeting in Islamabad, the MMA’s supreme council decided that all the alliance’s members would resign from the national parliament and provincial assemblies.

Senior MMA leader Liaquat Baloch said this would take place after further meetings on 6 and 7 December.
"They have given free leave to adulterers and fornicators, and those who would spread evil in society," he said…

the only reason why use see more rape casses in the west than in islamic kingdoms is becasue of a little thing called freedom of the press and the law.
when a woman in the west gets rapped she ges to the cops who arrest the bastard and throw the book at him (unless hes a Kennedy of course) it is then reported in the press. Now in your Islamic kingdom women cant gotothe cops casue they dont believe her casue shes someones property, besides the Koran lets a man take his wife whenever he wants. The press cant report it casue all information must be approved before printing and little things like crime rates are grossly under stated. Also in the west there ar support groups and other councelling avaliable to women who are victims. In Islamic kingdoms they are given a 1000 lashes for lieing or insulting her family name and for being a whore.

I've seen the documentary on it and I know not every women goes to police because of the media........ Because they don't want to see their face on the news paper the next morning.........

no you cant compare the # to the middle east becasue the middle east # arnt true. if and when freddom of the press comes to the middle east and real # are reported then you can come here and make claims that here is less violence in the ME.
you are right not every woman reports her crime, but at least in the west women CAN report the crime if they choose and have a support system in place to help them. Alot better than a 1000 lashes for being a whore.

More And More People are Turning to Islam, especially after 9/11. September 11 has led to the media giving Islam a lot of attention. Although, the media has mostly reported negatively about Muslims and Islam, it has made people research about Islam. This has led to many to find the Truth about Islam and readily accept it as their faith.

CNN states that 1/4 of the 6 Million Muslims in the United States are Revert Muslims (Converts).

Allison Poole was Raised as a Southern Baptist Christian. She became Muslim this Ramadan. Alhamdulilah! Since becoming Muslim, she feels more at peace and finds Islam has made he life much better as she has the right belief in God. Her family is completely behind her decision, but she finds fellow Americans still misunderstand Islam and say bad things.

Barbara Cartabuke is also an American who has found Islam post 911. She was a Catholic who always felt praying to Jesus and reading Hail Mary's was wrong. When she found Islam, it was a breath of fresh air and answered all her questions regarding the reality of her existance and of true belief in God.
