I come from a GAMBLING FAMILY, I can remember when I was 11yrs old I spent CHRISTMAS at the NEW ORLEANS FAIRGOUNDS in the CLUB HOUSE, I was in the 7th GRADE when I was playing FOOTBALL CARDS, the BIGGEST THRILL I have GAMBLING is BETTING on a WINNING HORSE, it?s the BEST FEELING for me, I use to PITCH COINS outside of LSU STADIUM before the FOOTBALL game, that was some GOOD OLD DAYS...

I CAN REMEMBER IT LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY I STARTED GAMBLING IN THE 1ST GRADE.IT WAS A HOT DAY AND I WAS BULLSHIT BECAUSE MY MOTHER MADE ME GO TO A CATHOLIC SCHOOL WHILE ALL MY OTHER PALS WENT PUBLIC.WELL ANYWAY THERE WAS THIS F-G JIMMY MURRAY HE WAS ALWAYS PICKING HIS NODE AND SUCKING HIS THUMB WELL TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT ONE OF THE KIDS SAID I WAS SCARED OF JIMMY MURRAY AND I SAID HEY LISTEN YOU F-CKING PUNK DO YOU WANT TO BET YOUR PEANUTBUTTER AND MARSHMELLOW SANDWICH THAT I WILL KICK MURRAYS ARSE SO FELLAS MY FIRST BET WAS FOR A SANDWICH.WELL FOLKS MY FIRST BET WAS A SUCCESS I KNOCKED MURRAY AROUND PRETTY GOOD AS A MATTER OF FACT I GOT THROWN OUT OF SCHOOL AND MY MOTHER SENT ME TO A PUBLIC SCHOOL THE NEXT WEEK.BOYS I HAVE NEVER BEEN MUCH OF A FIGHTER HOWEVER AFTER I KICKED MURRAYS ARSE I WAS LOOKED AT LIKE A BULLY AND NOBODY MESSED WITH ME.

I AM GOD DAM LUCKY JIMMY MURRAY FORGOT ABOUT THE TIME I KICKED HIS ARSE IN THE 1ST GRADE. HE TURNED OUT TO BE A GORRILLA 6FT 3 INCHES TALL 225 POUNDS OF PURE MUSCLE.THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE LUCKIEST BREAK OF MY LIFE:thumbsup HE'S THE ONLY KID IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD JOHNNY KNOCKDOWN WOULDNT EVEN FIGHT THEY ARMED WRESTLED ONCE AND MURRAY HAD JOHNNY KNOCKDOWN DOWN IN 5 SECONDS.A COUPLE OF THE GUYS TRY AND START TROUBLE LIKE SAYING HEY MURRAY DO YOU REMEMBER THE DAY BEANTOWNJIM KICKED YOUR ARSE IN THE 1ST GRADE:hung I JUST SAY HEY JIMMY NEVER MIND THESE GUYS THERE JUST F-CKING AROUND.

At work!! on Thursday/Friday we would have about 10-12 guys pitching quarters and playing liars poker!! I was about 17 when I started!!

Ever since I was a small boy I used to pride myself on knowing all the stats, players, teams etc...way more in depth than all the other kids around me. So as I grew older, I was like "man i have so much sports stuff in my brain" that I guess the natural progression was to start betting the games and "put my money where my mouth was." 1st actual sports bet wasnt made till 23

I grew up near Saratoga race course and would go frequently as a kid. Started placing my own bets at the windows at the age of 13 or 14.

Also used to get the parlay cards from my dad. I think I hit a 5 teamer the first or 2nd time I played one. Also used to run the Super Bowl square pool as a young kid during my parents Super Bowl parties. I remember the Fridge TD in 86 gave me one of the winners. I was 10 years old.

I started running football pools probably back in 6th or 7th grade. It was only for a buck but I still got suspended from school for a few days. Then I started running the March Madness pools. It was a natural progression. Then once the internet took off, I was hooked. Pretty much inevitable when you look back at my history.

self made football boards 4th grade $0.10 to enter... teacher shut it down after 3 weeks.

Cutting class to pitch quarters with my school pals in the 10th grade.

Later in life started playing parlay cards at work.

Parlay cards from a co-worker. And like most others who started that way, I won the very first weekend I tried!

My Mom took me too a lunch with some relitives at the greyhound track. I fell in love with racing..All the #'s, trends, ext, and became obsessed with how to weigh the angles to pick winners.

grew up in nyc when we had 3 baseball teams. started booking 3 players 6 hits for the day. think i was 11. my life hasnt changed much have gone from mantle,mays,snyder to ibm intc and msft. its still all about %. regards heart222

In high school with $1 parlay cards which led to weekly poker games and trips to the harness track in Foxboro. Eventually, I was booking the parlay cards (Strike in '82 killed me--I was making a fortune before that) and going to the dog track at Wonderland 6 nights a week (they were closed on Sundays). I remember hitting a $1200 tri, staying out all night, and barely getting to the field for the first of two high school double session football practice. Thought I died.

I believe when I was younger a few things led to me having such an interest in betting on sports/gambling...........


I used to be a very avid collector of sport cards. It was a "gamble" in general, because you had to determine which rookies would possibly hit it big, which hot cards to dump & sell at key times, and so on.

Then, before my best friend moved away to play for FSU, we used to play Madden Football on the Sega Genesis, etc. It then got to the point we would put somne of our more valuable sports cards up against each other to make the games more interesting. After a while, it then became money.

We always played sports & were big sports fans just like everyone here at eog is, (Well, except Andrew :p ) and we were always aware of Vegas, but was too young at the time to go. We always talked about how we wished we had the luxury of just getting up on Sunday morning, going down to our local store to purchase a ticket/place a wager on a team we wanted to bet on that day, just like a lottery ticket. We were a little skeptical of internet sportsbooks back then, but finally decided to give it a whirl, and now it's come to this, by not only being able to bet on anything you like, but also getting to hang out with great people who all have something in common & to share with each other here at eog.com.........:cheers

1968 world series i had over 120$ on the st. louis cardinals from kids at school........2 to 3$ bets....................... took a bad beat............and being from detroit...............

8 years old.....mom started dropping me off at the local golf course and several guys took me under their wing....club pro along with a couple Docs and their kids. They always played for $$. I used to get 5 strokes a hole at one point....lol. If I lost i would have to wash their cars, mow lawns, etc. but if i won it would be for their normal stakes which were pretty fucking saaaaweet. Didnt take me long to spend every waking hour on the course to get better, also didnt take them long to drop my strokes and ask that I pay in $ instead of car washes:+textinb3 .

Started with poker in high school, and really caught a high fever when the Hartford Fronton opened. I did not even know what jai alai was until I made my first $2 quinella bet and hit for $160! Hooked big time on jai alai and then all the sports betting followed. Bookmaking followed that eventually, and then of course, the "crash and burn" portion of my life ,which I am still recovering from. Looking back, I could not have done anything different even if I wanted to. The lure of gambling was too attractive.
