A great read for anyone who plays in local games or the 4-8 to 10-20 games in casinos. I'm not a math pro like OscarB, but they break it down in such a way that even guys like me understand the basics of pot odds and positive expectation.

I love anecdotal books like Bellin's "Poker Nation," and Amarillo Slim's "A World Full of Fat People," but the occasional educational treatise is key for anyone looking to better their game.

been playing on line for 5 yrs I also read lots a books as well ,every little bit helps right,information is king,:smokesmal but there is no subsitution for experience

INFOMATION IS THE KEY! READ EVERY POKER BOOK YOU CAN FIND! THEN READ THE BIBLE! THEN PRAY U GET GOOD CARDS AND BAD PLAYERS AT UR TABLE!

I agree. But it can't hurt to try to learn from the professionals. For example, if I wanted to become a huge douchebag, I could start by reading all your posts. While that wouldn't make me a douchebag, it would give me some key tips and real insight on how to become one.

The players are so bad at live games under 10-20 a couple of books and good enough discipline to follow them should make you at least a small winner. Online games are a different story, too many tight players somewhat offset by very low costs relative to live games.

Now if you want to elevate your game to greatness and win a lot more you have to think outside the books and just use them as conceptual guides. And when you do that, you can move up to the bigger games.
