I have seen these videos. The most gut wrenching, violent shit, I have ever seen in my life.......(yes more violent and eery than a bumfights video)

While the people being beheaded are innocent in a sense. Most are contractors, American and foreign. The knew exactly what would happen to them, if they were captured. They chose instead to collect the big paychecks that are being offered with the acceptance of their Middle Eastern contracts..

If, CNN, FOX, NBC, CBS, ABC, or the other 'major' news organisations started showing uncensored clips from these videos on the nightly news. We would be out of the Middle East...in less than an hour.

The reason that all Americans should be horrified that our armed forces engage in torture has nothing to do with who we are torturing. Rather it has to do with what our country ostensibly stands for. We don't torture because we are the good guys. We believe in doing what's right, and hold ourselves out to be a fair and just people. By engaging in torture, we have lowered ourselves to the level of some South American banana republic.
Furthermore, the argument that it's okay to torture "them" because "they" publicly behead Americans is ridiculous. Don't you know that the Japanese and the German's committed horrible atrocities against Americans in World War Two? Yet the America of that era did not find it necessary to torture captured Japanese or German troops. Do you honestly believe that the survival of America is predicated on committing torture against captured insurgents? When faced with a war for our very survival against truly powerful foes in World War Two, our country stood up for American values and refused to commit torture.
Because we were the good guys, we were able to hold the Nuremburg war crimes trials and hold accountable those who violated the laws of war. We had credibility because we did not do such things. How much credibility do we have now? Does anyone honestly believe that the world of nations would now support a war crimes trial presided over by America?
As an American, I am appalled and ashamed that this regime has sold our 231-year legacy of honor, justice and integrity by engaging in torture.

Rather, my worries for the future of my country center on the current regime's act of giving its official stamp of approval to methods that have been universally considered to be torture; its unilateral decision that the Geneva Convention did not apply whenever and wherever it so chose; and its unilateral decision that an Act of Congress which specifically prohibited torture did not apply to its actions.
The Founding Fathers gave us a system of government which is predicated on the checks and balances between the three branches to ensure that too much power does not adhere in any one branch. The current regime's actions demonstrate that it has little or no concern about America, its people or its future.
This regime's reckless disregard for the carefully crafted system gifted to us by the Founding Fathers has placed our country's future in grave peril. Remember, this regime, nor the Repuglicans party, will be in power forever. How comfortable will you be with the opposition (fill in your worst nightmare here) in the White House, replete with the belief that the President answers to no one, and can operate with impunity?

Not a fan of the Clinton either. However, I am MUCH more worried about Americans actually engaging in torture than I am about rendition, no matter who started it, or when. Especially when doing so specifically disregards a law duly enacted by Congress.
