Major Online Gambling Bust: 4 Agents arrested, dozens pending!!!

Online Gambling Bust: 4 Agents arrested, dozens pending

written April 24. 2007

Thus far, four agents have been arrested today in Las Vegas, Nevada and California with charges having to do with illegal bookmaking, conspiracy, money laundering and a host of others related to gambling.

One agent who goes by the name of "Brandt," is known as arguably the biggest agent of them all and did business with almost every online bookmaker.

EOG was informed that Brandt underwent a search and seizure at his house. They took his computer and records, but didnt arrest him, according to one insider who asked not to be identified...

It is also being reported that BetCRIS may also be involved in this story, most probably having agents arrested who worked for them.

KTAR news has just reported:

"Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies are serving more than 40 search warrants in Phoenix, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

It's part of an undercover operation targeting organized crime syndicates involving national and international gambling operations.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio expects dozens of people to be arrested.

Deputies are attempting to seize at least $145 million in assets gleaned from the illegal operations."

If ever I smelled a "rat," this is one of those times. I hope I am mistaken, but I doubt it.

EOG.com will continue to keep the Internet gambling industry covered as soon as we learn more details.

Wow, a bust like this and no one from New Jersey is involved this time? How can that be?

Re: Online Gambling Bust: 4 Agents arrested, dozens pending

This is not funny and judging by the amount of assets they are claiming to seize, 145 million, this is HUGE.....

if we have money in betcris should it be withdrawn now

Let's not panic but I'd always rather be at the front of the line than the back of it...

Seems like all it would take is one pissed off bettor or bettor's wife. They tip the local authorities, and all hell breaks loose. Shrink, do you recommend staying away from agents for this reason?

40 arrests - 170mm$... That's nearly $5mm per agent. Those were some damn big agents!

Figure 5 percent hold and these guys took $100mm in bets each.

You can trust an agent like your best friend, but what if he gets pinched while holding your money? Do reputable books cover that?

Not under standard circumstances. When you deal with agents, the agent is responsible for paying you and collecting from you, not the book.

On the other side, the agent, not the player, is responsible to the book.

Who is KTAR?

KTAR is news 92.3 in the Phoenix area.

Maybe they want to seize $145 million but it seems to me that offshore bank accounts are not accessible to Federal agents and BetCris no longer has any direct US clients only susbsidiary ones. So is the $145 million on US soil in agent's accounts?

Will anyone give me under $5 million for actual cash seized?

The feds can't catch any terrorists, so they are going after easier prey.

Re: Major Online Gambling Bust: 4 Agents arrested, dozens pending!!!

I'm sure when the press conference is held the one and only Jon Kyl will be there trying to take some credit and talk about how he is protecting Arizona and the country's children.

Terrorists and rapists don't have money on them.

Bookies, escorts, and drug dealers do.

Is there any wonder why corrupt local police departments chase the latter three?

Beyond that, Bookies and escorts and most drug dealers in nice areas don't shoot back.

So if we sign the letter to congress, will they start coming after each of us? We can't get Iraq done but we can arrest agents? Good grief.

All joking aside..this is serious. The feds can't get to the "main guys" so they are cutting off there tentacles.

And "JC" just because you were part of a great post up operation you don't have to be sacastic with the credit business. It is what runs the offshore world. I can tell you more then 5 mil was taken today.

Also, these guys were not "arrested" they had warrants for there homes and offices..took all the computers and paperwork and cash. They told the guys involved that it is an ongoing investigation and left. Same thing happened when Joe V got pinched in philly a while back. Very bad day for this business today.

Not being sarcastic. I just think the media has a way of blowing things out of proportion.

Not to make you seem like you don't know what your talking about. But in this case you have no freaking clue. Not going to get into it..but talk to your boss and you will get it. This is not good for so many reasons.

sharp gambler is johnny on the spot here.

Some very informed people are telling me that the "search and seizures" are actually WORSE than some immediate arrests because the FEDS will be looking to gather more info to make a RICO CASE against certain people involved further down the line...

This may turn out into one of the bigger mainland travesties that we have seen in a long time...

Whenever organized crime elements are said to be involved, the media will undoubtedly try and make it into a circus...

I would expect a Press conference to be released shortly...

You aren't going to make me feel bad SG. I was not born yesterday. I listen to and respect all, learning as I go, but....

I am VERY aware, my friend. But, the written journalism (as always) will be as big as nailing the real killer of JFK. Blown out of proportion.

This is way under proportion as it is being reported. The ramifications of what occurs going forward is enormous.

Re: Major Online Gambling Bust: 4 Agents arrested, dozens pending!!!

So, what does this mean for the average person who is keeping their finders crossed that we will be able to continue online sports betting here in the states? JCC

Re: Major Online Gambling Bust: 4 Agents arrested, dozens pending!!!

1-no need to let egos get in the way...

2-jimmy, this means very little to the average person who likes to bet online because no matter what, I don't believe the US will ever be able to stop it, nor will they waste the money to arrest citizens betting in the confines of their homes. I doubt they want that type of PR...:finger004

3-more about this will be coming out soon and nobody knows the ramifications yet but the timing certainly sucks...

This is bad, bad, bad and nobody is dramatizing anything, its not good. Search and seizure, like Ken said could be worse then any arrest, they could be gathering info for a RICO case, anytime organzied crime is mentioned its not gonna come out good. JC, I'll take over for the limit in 5 mil cash, with the individuals involved, no overstating on numbers this time around.

The authorities are fighting a losing battle. They'll fight it forever, but they will never win.

Just about every day, you can read about a hooker busted somewhere, yet you can hire a hooker.

Just about every day, they seize a big ass batch of cocaine, yet you can buy coke.

They'll keep busting agents from time to time, but they arent even touching the iceberg. They bust like 100/month. I would guess there are at least 5million agents/bookies in the US.

It is also being reported that BetCRIS may also be involved in this story, most probably having agents arrested who worked for them.

posted in first post. Does this mean there affiliate would be involved also.
Is money safe in there.

From a recent BetCris rep,

Betcris doesn't have any thing to do with the US market. That's one reason they created b o o k m a k e r .com

I believe your money will always be safe with them...

I don't know why anyone would risk booking. It would be easy to get busted. Any can find a bookie by asking around.
