Here's how I rank the Big10 (and compared to the SEC)

Big10:

Michigan
Wisconsin
Illinois (tie)
Ohio St (tie)
Iowa
Purdue
Penn St
Northwestern (tie)
Michigan St (tie)
Indiana
Minnesota

Best pass offense: Michgan and Purdue
Best run offense: Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois
Best pass defense: Ohio St and Iowa
Best run defense: Iowa

Best overall offense: Michigan
Best overall defense: Iowa

Worst overall offense: Minnesota
Worst overall defense: Minnesota

Compared to the SEC:

1. LSU
2. Alabama
2. Michigan
4. South Carolina
4. Wisconsin
6. Florida
6. Tennessee
6. Illinois
6. Ohio St
10. Auburn
10. Iowa
12. Purdue
13. Georgia
13. Penn St
15. Northwestern
16. Mississippi
16. Arkansas
16. Michigan St
16. Indiana
20. Vanderbilt
21. Mississippi St
21. Minnesota
23. Kentucky

I know you guys think I'm crazy for putting Kentucky so low, but I think they are a pretty poor team this season. I also think that the SEC is definitely better at the top, but the Big10 has alot of pretty good teams. Only one great one, but they have alot of pretty good teams all the way to the bottom.

And as before, this has nothing to do with the teams' schedules. This is just an evaluation of talent. LSU could easily run into 3 teams they don't matchup well against and lose where a team like Penn St could have nice matchups all year long and come out with a better record even though they aren't as good of a team. Keep that in mind.

I'm no college football fan or expert, but you really rank Illinois that highly in the Big Ten and among the BT/SEC this year? I didn't even know that Illinois was bowl-worthy.

Only reason I looked at this at all is that I am going to the OSU-Minnesota game and some people have asked me how good OSU is going to be this year. I said I didn't think they were National Championship good, but probably among the top two in the BT again. But you've got Illinois up there with OSU and Florida????

holy shit. iowa top pass defense? are you kidding me? if you like illinois, its in part b/c their most talent player, davis, is one of the best DBs in college football. they have a decent pass defense, certainly better that that of the hawkeyes. im guessing you dont know didley poo about any players, you just have some stats?

-illinois over auburn? :LMAO
-bama #2? :LMAO
-LSU #1? can you even tell us the name of their starting qb? im sure you couldnt if we were sitting down in person. by 'im sure' i mean, im 100% positive that you have no clue.
-south carolina #4 overall? what about the defense they've got? :+clueless
-UGA under purdue and iowa? why? :+clueless
-northwestern over arkansas? :LMAO :LMAO :LMAO :LMAO :LMAO
-kentucky last? how fucking stupid are you? Kentucky had their way with clemson in their bowl game last year, had a good year overall, and return one of the best QBs in the nation. there is NO CHANCE they will be the worst team of the two conferences. Zero chance. none. not...'well maybe'...not...'well perhaps a 1% chance'....none.

jake...why do this to yourself? this is one of the most embarrassing things ive ever read.

Yup.

Illinois was a top 10 rushing team in college football last year and has almost every single person back on offense. They went with a freshman QB last year and their passing was horrible but with another year of experience for Juice Williams and his offensive line back to give him better protection, the passing side of things should improve quite a bit in Williams' 2nd year of this offense. Illinois also signed a top 10 WR recruint (as high as #3 by some) so it's just another option in an offense that should be amongst the best in the nation.

Zook really got the defense going last year as they were 33rd in total yardage given up and really clamped down on passing. They have 9 guys back on defense (same as the 9 back on offense) they should improve even more. What's even scarier about the defensive line is that although they were pretty good last year and now have another year of experience, Illinois signed some stud freshman that may just be better than the guys they have including a top 5 DE recruit.

The schedule is tough this year and I doubt Illinois will have a better record than some of the teams below them, but they should be very good and competitive in every single game. They could easily be the favorite to win the Big10 next year. Don't sleep on em.

Very obvious you are clueless about Big10 football. PSU will be very good this year. Ohio State will not be good.

Just posted about Illinois.

Bama is studly. You'll see my young student.

LSU's QB is either Perilloux (may be spelled wrong) who was the #1 or #2 QB a year or two ago or Matt Flynn. I think Perriloux will get the job but the coaches may like the fact that Flynn has come through in the past and is a senior.

Georgia may surprise but they have almost no one back on defense and their offensive line isn't looking good at all. They were crap on offense last year and I'm not sure they improve. Their D carried em and almost all those guys are gone.

Arkansas is overrated. The running holes won't be there for McFadden like they were last year. The defense only has 4 guys back. The Razorbacks are one of the most overrated teams in college football. Are you just going off what they did last year mo? Did you even look at the team for this year?

And Kentucky is going to stink. What do you like about the team? That fact that their only offense is passing and their offensive line likely won't give them time to throw? Or that fact that their defense was about as horrible as any in college football last year and has shown no signs of improvement? Sounds like a winner to me. :doh1

Georgia is the only one of the statements you made where I'll question myself. They have talent but the loss of all those defenders and the lack of offense last year makes me think they need another year before they get back to where they used to be.

Oh yea, and fuck you. :houra

I had Penn St as a top national team when they had Michael Robinson and a great offensive line/defense. Their offense should show improvements this year but their defense won't be nearly as good with a new line.

oh, they signed a top 10 WR? his name isnt benn is it? hes not from DC is he? i think ive heard of him. im glad that impresses you but Florida has 8 of him already. a top 5 DE recruit? i wonder where he is from? what about big melvin? you have any idea who he is or why he came to illinois? so far you are counting on some freshman it looks like?

You apparently missed one of the first paragraphs of my post where I said that the ratings were based on skill and had absolutely zero to do with schedule. Penn could take the conference... they have a nice schedule.

I could see Penn St dropping only the road game to Michigan this year. I also think they drop the road game at Illinois and one other, possibly one of the two home games against Ohio St or Wisconsin. They'll have a good record since they play monsters like Florida International, Buffalo, and Temple this year. Notre Dame is an easy matchup for this Penn team as well. That being said, my ratings had nothing to do with schedules and wins.

Re: Here's how I rank the Big10 (and compared to the SEC)

oh, they signed a top 10 WR? his name isnt benn is it? hes not from DC is he? i think ive heard of him. im glad that impresses you but Florida has 8 of him already. a top 5 DE recruit? i wonder where he is from? what about big melvin? you have any idea who he is or why he came to illinois? so far you are counting on some freshman it looks like?
:doh1

Florida is going to be a great team again this year but their defense is going to have issues early on. Very possible 7 underclassmen start. Only 1 senior is back that started last year. That's not something I'd call reliable although Florida will be very competitive. Probably will rush for 200 yards a game in the SEC which isn't easy to do.

:houra

yeah, you did post about illinois, but nothing that i couldnt teach a monkey. not anything of substance. no actual reasons why they would actually be better than florida. remember zook has recruited well in the past, he just couldnt coach'em up.

so you dont know who will be their QB, but they are the best team in either conference regardless? thats neat.

UGAs offense looked decent when carving up a top 5 national defense in their bowl game? you seem to love that illinois did decently a couple times with a fresh QB. UGA did much better, in a much better league, and had a much better freshman QB. you dont think he may get a bit better?

haha the holes wont be there? why not? btw, he didnt exactly have huge holes to run through last year. your problem is that you actually dont know anything. they ran a 'wild-cat' offense that is predicated upon misdirection and speed. felix jones and mcfadden on the field at the same time doesn't give a defense the ability to focus on just one of them and they're both 4.3 type backs. they dont have to have holes, they beat people to spots and they get the ball into jones' hands, while hes already running and the defense is set which gives him an advantage to the outside. they ran all over LSU, the most talented front in NCAAF last year, they will be better this year on offense. you lose. its a problem for you b/c i know much more than you...when you figure that out you are, typically, too stubborn to change your mind and you will stick with something that even you understand to be wrong. thats a shame. im over it though. :)

Kentucky stinks, thats bright. no actual reasons, you dont know anything about them, but you spout this off. lets be honest, you've never even seen them play. Woodson is an all-sec caliber sr QB. thats a nice start. its obvious that you know nothing about the team because many in the league would call rafael little one of the most talented backs in the league. we're talking about a team that went 8-5 last year, son. oh yeah, why wont the line give woodson any time to throw? he managed over 3K yards and 28 TDs last year and showed that he is secure with the ball, only 5 INTs. you see you dont have any actual reasons. you just say something b/c you want it to be true and you really dont know nearly enough about it.

intelligent, you're not. fun, no doubt.

yes, again. 'underclassmen' actually doesnt mean anything. its who is starting. some of these 'underclassmen' would have gone in round 1 of this years draft if you could leave before your sr year. harvey, for example. i think its comical that you reference impact freshman at illinois, a Dlineman even, but you fail to acknowledge that the Best De in the nation is now a gator and could have an early impact. florida has a much better coach, has much better talent, and has much better freshman coming in. you can nut over the fact that illinois is up and coming all you like, but you need a small reality check. there is still nothing about that team thats better than Florida. not even their newest additions are as talented as those of the gators. you see jake, there is a simple fact in all of this, i know a lot more than you do. not saying thats good or bad, its just reality. Florida would beat Illinois by 50, if they played in a meaningful game. well, it could be more, but urban isnt one to run it up.

Best team in either conference? What are you even talking about? I have them in a 3-way tied for 6th best.

Also, if you watched Arkansas at all last year, you'd know they had an incredible offensive line that opened up huge holes. A RB is only as good as his offensive line and this year's offensive line isn't looking nearly as good as last year.

If you can't figure out what reasons I just wrote about Kentucky, than you are a lost cause. I just outlined exactly why I think they stink, and you come back with "you gave no actual reasons". What the hell do you want? A 300 page book on why Jason Leger has his right hand too low in pass protection? Give me a break.

jake, you dont know who LSUs QB is going to be. can you not put together the most simple of things?
:+clueless

i understand they had some holes, but they didnt exactly have to hold them long. they also ran a lot to the outside. i watched them many times. they will run all over teams this year. thats not a 'maybe', thats a fact.

no, you're a lost cause. you didnt say anything. you've never even seen them play. jason leger holds his right hand too low in pass protection? :LMAO :LMAO :LMAO
1) you dont know anything about coaching football.
2) the things you said made no sense. Leger played last year and they passed...uh, decently, no? you see you're stupid jake. the 'leger' comment may or may not have been completely sarcastic, that has no baring on this. you think that saying 'they can only pass and their defense stinks' is a statement with any substance? thats nonsense, kid. that is meaningless crap. the fact is, their pass oriented offense did very well with a JR running it. This guy is back and should be even better. Little will be a bigger pat of the offense but you dont know shit about him. you dont know shit about anything here. Kentucky is 90 times better than indiana. Kentucky is better than purdue. you state some stats you've read. you don't know anything about these teams or players. saying a team stinks is not outlining anything. saying a teams defense is the worst ever dude, is not actually stating anything. we all know kentucky isnt known for their defense. they weren't last year either and managed 8-5. you have said nothing that should make anyone give an ounce of credit to your thoughts. you have not shown that you actually know anything about these teams. you just sound like the average guy talking at a bar after a few drinks. 'ah, kentucky stinks. they just pass and got no d. no chance for the cats this year. no sir".
yeah, i put a lot of stock into that.

btw, how many players on illinois roster do you think would start at florida?
:)

First off, I never said illinois is better than Florida. I have them tied with the Gators and think Florida would win head-to-head. Football is a game of matchups and just because one team is more talented overall doesn't mean they are going to win if they run into a team that matches up against them better than they matchup against the opposition.

Anyway, where were we?

Oh yea, one of the two returning Kentucky OLine guys wasn't even in spring ball cause his grades needed work. Sorry mo, but having one returning starter for spring ball doesn't scream out pass protection. As far as their 8-5 record, they had wins against such powerhouses as Texas St, Mississippi, Central Michigan, Mississippi St, Vanderbilt, and Louisiana-Monroe. The Georgie win was impressive and the Clemson win was good although from watching the game, it didn't seem like Clemson was all that interested in playing.

Hell, Kentucky may lose to Kent St in their 2nd game. They still have simple teams like Eastern Kentucky and Florida Atlantic on their schedule so they'll get a few wins here and there, but they travel to Arkansas, South Carolina, and Georgia and get LSU, Florida, and Tennessee at home. There is no way this team is going to have a winning record. 4-8 is a very possible scenario.

Anyway, I'm gonna go grab some tall cans. Be back in a bit.

yes, florida and ill are even steven. what areas make illinois better. name a few, so we can all learn. thank you.

Kentucky isn't a great team. no doubt about it. but they are not a bad team either. they will have a great offense and one of the best Qbs in the country. that alone puts them ahead of vandy and some of the others. you state that these wins were over vandy, miss, miss st...well, you have all of those teams now ranked ahead of kentucky. lets keep in mind, my argument is not that kentucky is a top 10 team, it is simply that they are Not the worst team in the sec/big-10 combined. having an all-american/all-conference QB alone sets them above some teams. you are really missing the ball here, dear jake.

jake, are you now citing a teams upcoming schedule? :+clueless i thought that mattered zero, so why does it come up?
You apparently missed one of the first paragraphs of my post where I said that the ratings were based on skill and had absolutely zero to do with schedule. -jakethompson

Just citing that this Kentucky team could lose double the games they win. The schedule had nothing to do with the crappy ranking, that had more to do with the crappy team they are set to field. Watch Jamarcus Russell in Oakland this year... that should show you how a talented QB won't do well without an offensive line to give him time. Same situation in Kentucky this year.

As far as these teams:

Vandy: Tons of guys back, defense and offense were both respectable last season and should show nice improvements with a senior lead and experienced squad.

Miss: Offensive line looking good and whoever starts at QB is going to have more time to toss. The defense was okay last season and the D Line is back in tact so they should show improvement. Looking back, I may have Mississippi too high. I'll adjust it, although I still think they are every bit as good as Kentucky.

Miss St: Everyone back on offense. This team needs the run to do well and they've been grooming this line since Croom took over. Defense is going to be iffy although Croom generally does a good job getting a competitive unit going. Vandy is definitely better than Tucky, Miss, and Miss St in my eyes. Gonna tweek my rankings a tit bit.

a rookie, on the worst team in the, in the best conference, in the NFL is a lot like a Sr Qb who threw for 28TDs and 5INTs as a jr. im sure russle and woodson will have simliar numbers. in fact, lets be 5K on who has better numbers? you say these things are very similar and you will show me. heck, i am out of my league here when talking to you about football. im practically new to the game. so take my money. 5K on who has better numbers this year b/w russel and woodson. you on, kiddie? i mean, neither can possibly be successful with these lines. i'll take a stab at woodson.

woodson will have better numbers? really? ya think? there is a difference b/w a rookie in the NFL with a bad line and a sr with a bad line in college? Cutler had an awful line when he was a sr, they still won a few ball games now didnt they. i think this is wonderful b/c you are overlooking the fact that vandy, miss st, and a few other teams will also have a below average line...but they also dont have QBs worth a rats nuts. kentucky will be a decent team and will give some big teams some trouble. thats just how its going to be. jake, you need to get out of boise for a while and breath some new air. you're simply wrong. also, comparing russle to woodson was about the most ridiculous thing thats ever been posted. you have to realize that.

You guys can give me crap all you want but there is a reason I've cleaned up on college football the last three years.

Lots of people just look at last year's rankings and figure they will be the same without realizing how much things change year to year in sports.

I don't fault you guys for that. :)
