Not sure if any of your football fanatics even realize who the MOST DOMINANT football team out there is this year? You probably don't (since you can't bet on it!:() This team is one of the most remarkable stories this season! A story that is taking EXCELLENCE in football to a new level, and it's NOT the New England Patriots!!:cheers

Who is it you ask?

The MT UNION PURPLE RAIDERS

It will probably go down as the greatest DIII team ever to play once they finish this season off. You knew it was going to be a special season when they opened up with a 75-7 win. A game that saw the largest # of points ever put on the board in 1 quarter (52-0 after the 1st quarter), and they took a 72-0 lead to the locker room before clearing the bench!!!

One stretch (Oct 6 -Nov 10) they outscore their opponents by 285-0!! While if you want to throw in the one score, on Sept 29 that only makes the scoring margin 409-3. Over all the scoring margin is 695-59!! While many of those games are total garbage time with 3rd stringers playing in the 2nd half!

This is beyond amazing. They play in the DIII quarter finals this saturday at noon. If they roll to another championship, it will without much question be regarded as the greatest DIII football team to ever play!

Mo I got it...
You can take it off, or I'm sure the Mods will do it if you don't.

MCP: I have yet to see them in person, but my cousin coaches a DIII team here in WI, and he said this is the best team he has ever seen in DIII football by a mile. They are just making the opposition look silly.

Thats incredible! DIII is all NON scholarship. Thats saying a TON to turn down a full ride at a D1 school to play there! My cousin said he would not be surprised at all if they could beat some of your weaker D1 teams.

Maybe they should toughen up their schedule by playing a southern team. That is an impressive record though.

maybe they could meet halfway...D3 teams don't have mad loot for cross country road trips during the regular season. There is a playoff every year and I don't recall any Southern D3 teams faring well. imagine that.:smokesmal

Bethel (MN) 14, Mount Union 62

Micheli leads Mount Union to rout of Bethel in Division III semis

ALLIANCE, Ohio (AP) -- Quarterback Greg Micheli led Mount Union to a 62-14 victory over Bethel on Saturday that sent the Raiders to the Division III national championship game for the 11th time in 15 years.
Micheli was 16-for-19 passing for 258 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 58 yards for the two-time defending champion Purple Raiders (13-0), who scored on their first seven possessions.
Tailback Nate Kmic rushed for three touchdowns and 104 yards, going over the 100-yard mark for the 22nd time in 33 career starts in helping Mount Union advance to the 35th annual Stagg Bowl next Saturday against Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Warhawks beat Mary Hardin-Baylor 16-7 in the other semifinal Saturday.
Mount Union needed only three plays to reach the end zone on its first possession, scoring when Micheli hit wide receiver Pierre Garcon for a 46-yard touchdown just over a minute into the game. Garcon finished with five catches for 111 yards en route to setting Mount Union's career record for receptions (198).
After a 29-yard field goal by Mike Zimmerman on Mount Union's next possession, Micheli capped a short drive by hooking up with tight end Chad Reynolds to make the score 17-0.
After 14 weeks of play, Mount Union has outscored its opponents in the first quarter 284-6.
The second quarter started in similar fashion with Mount Union scoring on Kmic's 2-yard run. That was soon followed by a 37-yard field goal by Zimmerman after Bethel fumbled deep in its own territory. Kmic scored from 9 yards out on Mount Union's next trip down the field, making the score 34-0.
On their final possession of the half, the Purple Raiders took the ball 86 yards on seven plays, capped by Micheli's 8-yard run that made the score 41-0.
The Royals (12-2) didn't get their first score of the game until quarterback Dan Einerson found tight end Nick Otto from 7 yards out with 7:48 left to play.
The Mount Union defense was led by safety Craig Nickoli, who had his first two career interceptions, returning the second 20 yards for a score.

MT UNION faces my old stomping ground UW-WHITEWATER tomorrow

The game is on ESPN and will have a betting line.
Any thoughts of what it will be?
I'd guess MT UNION -21.5

Re: DOMINATION in football to a new degree!

ID:

I see by your icon you are CLEARLY misguided about easy questions!

The reason is simple:

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE CHICKS!!

Your can play 2nd string at a big D1 power, and get all the rejects of the 1st stringers, or you can be a star at DIII and get ALL the hotties!!:party

Re: DOMINATION in football to a new degree!

REALLY; that is why, at least it has been from my experience..I played basketball at a DIII school. We had a guy that was offered scholarships at D1 schools. He would have not been any superstar at a D1, but at DIII he was a star, and this guy had the chicks hanging off him....When your that age it's not about free schooling, it's all about the babes!

Wisconsin-Whitewater gets over hump, beats Mount Union for title

<!-- end page tools --><!-- begin story body --><!-- template inline -->SALEM, Va. -- Justin Beaver and Wisconsin-Whitewater finally found a way to beat Mount Union in the NCAA Division III championship game.
Beaver, the Gagliardi Trophy winner as the best player in Division III, overcame a costly fumble with his normal reliability on the ground Saturday, leading the Warhawks to a 31-21 victory in the soggy, cold Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.
The Warhawks won their first national title after losing 35-28 to Mount Union in the 2005 championship game and 35-16 in the rematch last year.
Wisconsin-Whitewater (14-1) ended Mount Union's 37-game winning streak, and deprived the Purple Raiders of their 10th national title in the last 15 years.
Beaver ran for 249 yards and broke off a backbreaking 66-yard run in the final minutes after the Purple Raiders closed to 24-21 with 3:36 remaining. Four plays after the long jaunt, quarterback Danny Jones' sneak finished the upset.
The Purple Raiders (14-1) turned the ball over three times on fumbles -- two by quarterback Greg Micheli and one by tailback Nate Kmic -- and never got their vaunted offense untracked. Mount Union came in averaging more than 54 points in the playoffs, but the Warhawks quickly began demonstrating that they were not playing in awe.
And when Mount Union seemed poised to rally in the end, Beaver didn't let them, turning a run into the line that looked to be going nowhere into a footrace down the right sideline that didn't end until he stepped out of bounds at the 4 yard-line.
Earlier, he seemed in line for a much less desirable finish.
After Mount Union finally scored on an 11-yard run by Kmic in the third quarter, Beaver fumbled on the next play and the Purple Raiders recovered. They promptly drove for another touchdown, Kmic taking it in on fourth-and-inches to make it 17-14.
In rainy conditions, both teams continued to struggle until a fumble by Micheli, Matt Blaziewske's recovery and a 15-yard penalty set the Warhawks up at midfield.
Six Beaver runs and one pass later, it was 24-14 with 6:11 to play.
The Purple Raiders trailed 10-0 at halftime, the first time they've been behind at intermission since 2005. Three times they went for it on fourth down, and each time they failed. They also failed to cash in on a fumble lost by Jones.
Tony DeRiggi recovered for the Purple Raiders at the Whitewater 44, but on the next play, Micheli ran for 12 yards before he, too, coughed it up, and Anthony White recovered for the Warhawks. Kmic later killed a drive that had reached the Warhawks 29 when he was stripped by Gabe Schultz. Grant Murray recovered for Whitewater.
The Warhawks struggled for most of the half, too, but started and ended well.
On their opening drive, Jones completed passes for 36 yards on the first two plays, Beaver had a 26-yard run that would have been a touchdown had he not slipped, and Jones scored on a quarterback sneak on second-and-goal to make it 7-0 after just 4:30.
Mount Union had given up six points in the first quarter all year.
After Kmic's fumble, Beaver had runs of five, nine and 45 yards to get the ball in Purple Raiders' territory, Jones ended a string of eight straight incompletions with a 10-yard pass to Neil Mrkvicka, and Jeff Schebler kicked a 32-yard field goal.

It's a complete madhouse in Whitewater!!
The town is party city. This was a HUGE win for the community!

It was surprising they won the game, but no surprise they covered that ridiculous line (+19.5). There only loss was to a good DII team!!. The local newspaper here was hilarious to read this morning. These clowns are the biggest group of homes, yet they ALL picked MT Union by a HUGE margin (ALL 5 of the papers sports reporters!). As soon as I read that, I knew White water was an even stronger play. There is a reason those guys write for the newspaper and are not betting!;)

They should have lost yesterday after blowing a 31-7 3rd quarter lead but they scored late to win. They are very very well coached.
