Re: Would you put LEN BIAS in the TOP 10 List of alltime CBB Players?
Back in the 80's I use to go to most of the Maryland ACC games...
I saw Len Bias play many times in person, top ten would be a bit of a reach because he wasn't dominant his entire career at Maryland, in fact he was a very unpolished player, late in his sophomore year Bias was showing signs of beinga great great player.
At his peak as a senior, he would have to be considered near the top but overall I would have to say no not top 10.
I will never forget the first time Bias showed signs of greatness , the Terps knocked off Jordan and Carolina and Bias made a couple high wirer type plays that left Cole Field House stunned, he was very awkward still , he could make a spectacular play then turn around and brick a shot from 10 feet.
By the time he was a junior he had a sweet jumper and was pretty much impossible to guard, as he got better, the Md teams lost their other really good players Adrian Branch, Herman Veal , Keith Gatlin, leaving it up to him as a senior, they lost to UNLV that year , and his Md career was over.
It would be real hard to have a 'top five collegians' without mentioning David Thompson , he was the player in college basketball for the decade of the 70's
My super 7
Alcinder
Thompson
Elvin Hayes
Bill Walton
Larry Bird
Magic Johnson
Pete Marovich
I dont believe you can put Bias ahead of any of these players, at the same time he had the potential to be the greatest basketball player not named Michael Jordan, he was that good at the end of his life IMHO.
