Former NBA player Isaiah Rider arrested - USATODAY.com

Former NBA player Isaiah Rider was jailed Saturday for investigation of auto theft, police said.

Rider, 37, was driving a car that failed to stop at an intersection about 2:30 a.m. in the city's Skid Row district, Officer Norma Eisenman said.
Officers checking the license plates discovered the car had been reported stolen from South Los Angeles, and Rider was arrested, police said.


He remained in the Los Angeles County jail on $25,000 bail, according to information on the website for the county Sheriff's Department.


Rider played at UNLV before reaching the NBA in 1993. He played with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trail Blazers, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets before ending his career in 2001.

amazing how these guys can so often just waste the talents, and opportunities they were given....we see it in sports all the time..

In one of the articles I read about this, someone mentioned that Rider made around $26 Million in his NBA career.

Let's say the average poster here makes 50 Grand a year once they get out of college. You work until you're 65 let's say. You'll make somewhere in the range of 2 to 2.5 Million in your lifetime

How the hell do these guys make that kind of money in the NBA and end up 3 or 4 years later in the situations they wind up in???

Published on: 01/06/08 Berkely, Calif. — Former Atlanta Hawk Isaiah Rider was in custody Sunday on outstanding arrest warrants after Berkeley police responded to a report of a disturbance between a taxi driver and a passenger.
Officers arrived on the scene to find the passenger was Rider. They arrested him on a no-bail warrant issued by Oakland police for unlawful firearm possession and another warrant for grand theft.

The 36-year-old Rider has a history of arrests, including a 2006 Marin County case in which he pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and battery.
Rider starred at Alameda's Encinal High and UNLV before being drafted fifth overall in 1993 by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

It's just another sign of a bad economy, when a respectable car thief is so down and out he's reduced to stealing 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlos.

So many X athletes find themselves in these situations do to bad management of $$$ they made while playing..I know of many X NBA players who are struggling and they earned lots of $$$ during their respective careers..They feel the faucet will always be on, but once outside the lines they have nothing other than the skills that have eroded..many of these players are learning disabled and have real problems in the real world..

JR Rider is five cans short of a six pack. Add that and the tude and you have the making of a locker room cancer. See Ricky Davis. i remember him getting caught cheating on an exam at unlv because the guy taking the test for him spelled his first name wrong. has and always will be an idiot
