Why isn't there better TV coverage of the Masters?

3-5 on Thursdays and Fridays? Not until 2 on Saturday? There's more than enough interest in this tournament to justify airing every minute of play.

They could probably cash in on PPV for early round coverage, at the very least.

The Masters controls everything. Remember when coverage was basically the back nine? I think the people who run The Masters know their product is something people want to see so they try and not to overexpose it.

Why isn't it being shown on USA like previous years?

Sucks I have today off and was planning on watching this all day.

Ol' Hootie Johnson, who is now the chairman emeritus of the Masters/Augusta faces this question every year.

And the answer pretty much boils down to: We are Augusta; we are comprised of very wealthy members; we don't need to increase our commercial revenues in exchange for giving up any more control of our tournament. We'll give you what we'll give you.

Fair enough. And i think its awesome that the Masters has no advertisements/corportate spornsorships anywhere on the course. The beer they serve there is either "Regular" or "Light"....you don't even know if you're getting a Bud, Miller, Busch or Heiniken.

I just think it sucks that I can't watch one of the best sporting events of the year on tv the 1st 2 days.

Precisely why I refuse to join Augusta. I just can't drink unidentifed beer!!

ESPN won the rights to air the Tournament... The Hours have always been like this and they are commercial Free except for Cadillac and one more sponsor the last 5 minutes of each hour.... Feel lucky now..cause up until around 6 years ago it only aired on the weekends from 4 until the last guy finished.... They still do not allow Amen Corner to be shown on TV except for the Tee Box and the approach shots....


Bottom line is.. you do it there way or they find another station that will.... and trust me they are Lining up to broadcast it.. There was a Huge article on it a few years ago when CBS Contract was about to be up .....
