What happened to motor homes,Winnebagos ?

I can't remember the last time I saw one on the road !

Did they all wind up parked in WV or R-Kansas, as trailers ?

Campgrounds must be a bad business nowadays ?

Re: What happened to motor homes,Winnebagos ?

Come to Florida during the winter. They, and yankees (snowbirds), are all over the place.

Re: What happened to motor homes,Winnebagos ?

They still make them, they look like Madden cruisers now!

They might make them, but I bet they don't sell many. I'm sure you could a like- new used one dirt cheap.

I'm guessing 6-8 mpg.

Drive that cross-country !

My thought on those always was:

Why not buy a Corvette instead, and stay in a motel !

Re: What happened to motor homes,Winnebagos ?

Winnebago still makes RV's, but I don't think Winnebago salesman is in the "Top Ten Jobs In America."

I imagine a lot of them are in drydock these days...

I think you'll see that decrease.

NY to Fla ( 1,000 miles) at 6 mpg= 166 gallons of gas

166 gallons at $4= $666

I think these will go the way of the Concorde jet.

Doug,

Snowbirds come down at the beginning of winter and they do not leave until around now. One trip down and one trip back. While down, they use their personal vehicle to get around. The only cost they really incur while here is the rental at the RV camp and what utilities they might have to pay. Since they are down here, they don't have to pay the heating and other utilities they would incur while remaining in the great white north. It's a trade off most of them will gladly make.

You know what would be pretty cool?

Own one of them big Rvs, and also have a nice cabin cruiser, maybe have a small condo for a home when you got tired of the road and the water....hmmm!

But the fuel costs are the problem now!

Well, there is more of a trade-off than that.

You are now living in a Winnebago.

So? You don't have to put up with frigid temps.

Some of these RV's are literally rolling Condos.

Yes, I can see that, but I wouldn't want to be involved in any way dependent on motor arks as my future....

sales
providing spaces
etc.

I never see one anymore, except parked in someone's driveway.

They can't be fun to drive.

Like driving a semi or a big van, depending on the size.

All I'm saying is they do it. There are a LOT of small towns here in Florida that depend upon the snowbirds coming down and living.

That's crazy ! Just buy a 12 year old Civic for $1500, as a second car.

Re: What happened to motor homes,Winnebagos ?

If you can't afford the gas, you can still sit in the driveway and drink beer.
