I think it boils down to (in no particular order):

Hanley Ramirez

Chase Utley

Jimmy Rollins

Albert Pujols

I don't put Jones in because he isn't the base stealer he once was. Still a terrific hitter who has never hit fewer than 21 home runs when given at least 358 AB's.

As I said, Crazy, he's a terrific hitter. When you say "player" to me, I want the complete player. The guy that hits for average, power, steals bases, and plays great defense. Had Chipper not tore his ACL and his other injuries, he might still be playing SS and being the COMPLETE player that he was destined to be.

You may be right, Crazy. I wasn't taking anything away from Chipper Jones. However, right now, this second, I would have to give the nod to Utley as the more COMPLETE and better player.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Lance Berkman. He's my odds on favorite to match or best Utley by seasons' end.

Pujols is still the most likely to dominate for years kind of player.

Chase is having a tremendous two yr run and is right there.

I would still say Pujols is king of the NL

I LIKE BERKMAN NOW....BUT ALBERT CHIPPER AND CHASE ARE RIGHT THERE ALSO

Hanley by a wide margin.

Chipper's not even the best at his own position (David Wright).

if u say complete player, u need to throw out hanley cuz he surely cant feild his position


in 2006 he had 26 errors
in 2007 he had 24 errors

David Wright is very good, but PLEASE as of right now not even close to Chipper......

Wrights AVG is inflated because he is CRUSHING LH pitching, and if you KNOW ANY baseball, you face lefties about a a fourth LESS then you do RHP....

Wright is hitting like 245 vs RHP and hasnt had many big hits ALL year...

CHIPPER ON BASE IS ALMOST .500, did yall here me .500......

Utleys has made about 10 errors already this season and hits in the best hitters park in ALL OF BASEBALL......Chipper might had 20 jacks playing in Philly.......But Utley is very very good.....

Hanley has a skillet but can kill it........

Phat Albert is a beast, but dont think for ONE second that he is about 5 years older than he leads us to think he is.....

Berkman is very very nice this season, but also hits in a major hitters park....

I vote the Meat Hook, Dimitri Young !!!!!!!!! Ha Ha

And by the way Rollins wining the MVP last year was TERRRRIBLE, just like Morneau a few years back....

I've been saying this about Albert for three years, he is probably about 33 -34 right now.

Still a high avg though and career .333 whatever he was on it appears to me he is no longer juiced but still a great hitter.
