good news royboy....

Triple Crown | Posted 5/12/2008, 11:41 am Harlem Rocker will skip Preakness

By DAVID GRENING ELMONT, N.Y. - The undefeated colt Harlem Rocker will not run in Saturday?s 133rd Preakness Stakes and instead will be pointed to the $1 million Queen?s Plate at Woodbine on June 22, his connections announced Monday.
Although trainer Todd Pletcher wanted to run, owner Frank Stronach decided to take a more conservative approach. Harlem Rocker, a son of Macho Uno, has won all three of his starts, including a 2?-length score in the Withers Stakes.
?He felt like it?s early in this horse?s career, it's a long year,? Pletcher said at his Belmont Park barn on Monday. ?He wants to play it conservative for now.?
The absence of Harlem Rocker brings the Preakness field down to 12 and should make Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown an even stronger favorite. Pletcher will still be represented in the Preakness with Behindatthebar.

big brown
stevil
tres borrachos
giant moon
kentucky bear

Casino Drive, a Japanese based half to Jazil and Rags to Riches, the past 2 Belmont winners, will be his only remaining competition for the Triple Crown. That is, unless Big Brown breaks down in the Preakness.

Re: Richard Dutrow --I want to bet $100,000 on Big Brown.

nope. He'll be 1/9. No way he's 1/2. $3.00 would be a gift from the gods. He paid $6 in the derby against 19 others.

1/9???? This aint Secretariat. No way this horse is a $2.20 horse in this spot. That is RIDICULOUS.

:smokesmal

with harlem rucker and now behindthebar out, i'd be shocked if he closes more than 1/5

1/5 is $2.40...$2.60 or $2.80 would not shock me and it wouldn't cost you $100 either

Student Council won the Pimlico Special paying $16.40...the Pim Spec/Preakness double with Big Brown will pay $20.20, which is approximately 1/5 odds on the $16.40

brown actually payed .20 more to place today than to win, and the same payout (2.40) to show... guess the bridge jumpers stayed away from the big field

Wow, one of the easiest bets of all time by Roy. Not even close. And OSU is calling me out for taking a shot at a huge tri, in case of injury, especially when I said BB was extremely dominant in the same thread? Wow, at least my bet had a slim shot if the stars aligned.

Re: Richard Dutrow --I want to bet $100,000 on Big Brown.

Re: Richard Dutrow --I want to bet $100,000 on Big Brown.

Horse showed up with fabricated workouts from Monmouth i believe, he was never even at Monmouth.

Hey Eddie...here's another story on the same topic...

A steroid user, and proud of it[/B]

Big Brown, meet Big Ben.
Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson and Triple Crown hopeful Big Brown have one big thing in common: Both used the steroid Winstrol to help them get big and fast.
The difference is, when Johnson tested positive for the drug (also known as Stanozolol) after winning gold at the 1988 Olympics, he had to turn in his medal. If Big Brown finishes off the triple with a win in next Saturday's Belmont Stakes, he will be heralded as one of the greats in his game.
While Johnson always denied his doping, Big Brown's trainer, Richard Dutrow Jr., brags of shooting up his horses with the steroid on the 15th of every month because, in horse racing, it is still legal in many places.
But not for much longer, it would seem.
Racing jurisdictions across North America -- including Ontario -- are scrambling to ban the use of most steroids. While some argue they don't have as dramatic effect on horses as humans, the optics are damaging.
"I don't know how the public can be asked to accept the rationale which says they're going to do away with it in baseball, football and Olympic sports but not do away with it in horse racing," Woodbine Entertainment Group CEO David Willmot said.
"Yes, there are certain cases where it can be beneficial. But the bottom line is how do you tell the public that somehow we are distinguishing ourselves from the rest of the sports world by allowing their use?"
Winstrol currently is on the banned-substance list in 10 states but the three jurisdictions where Triple Crown races are run --Kentucky, Maryland and New York -- are not among them.
Meanwhile, Dutrow is persona non grata around Woodbine after his connections duped bettors at the 2005 Queen's Plate. He was under suspension for a positive test at the time Wild Desert was shipped to Toronto for Canada's biggest race, but still called all the shots.
That included hiding some workouts of the horse, who won the Plate despite a 10-week layoff. At the victors press conference, his owners bragged about the big bets they cashed. Later, Dutrow was fined and suspension for providing misleading information regarding those workouts.
"It was offensive," Willmot said of the affair. "My reaction was: 'You come up here and use our most important race for a betting coup?' It was outrageous.
"There's nothing wrong with a guy having a bet on a horse and doing very well. But when you try to sneak in and do it under the radar, it's insulting."

...I don't buy the "insulting" part....the racetrack gets their cut no matter who wins. I don't know all the particulars and this article doesn't tell all the particulars in this case, but there are rules about horses needing published works before a race and I don't know if the rules were broken or not concerning Wild Desert. But I do know that trainers have been hiding works since horseracing began(see Seabiscuit movie) and they will continue to do so. Also how much of a "betting coup" could it be if Wild Desert went off at 8/5 odds? Not much of an insult in the greater scheme of things!

I think it's just as likely that because Dutrow is a loudmouth blowhard and disliked by everyone, that Woodbine and the Canadian racing officials went after him unfairly. It wouldn't be the first time in the annals of human history that something like this happened.

Re: Richard Dutrow --I want to bet $100,000 on Big Brown.

I dislike David Willmot, he's in charge of WEG which sets some of the highest takeouts in North America.

You have to understand, that the Queens Plate being the oldest run race in North American is a REALLY big deal up here. We're not talking about a 2500 maiden claimer at Indiana Downs, horses do no sneak into the Kentucky Derby with madeup works, why should the Queens Plate be any different.

Richard Dutrow at least admits he's a dirtball, I'll give him credit there.
