Defaults go to one of 3 chosen collection agencies. The idea is to lend 50-100 bucks to each borrower to lessen your exposure.
I only loan to homeowners, with verified bank accounts, who have low debt to income ratios. Borrowers are rated from AA-HR (F). I only lend to AA & A although I'm tempted to take a chance on a C borrower for 20% plus.
I've yet to be burned. I have one loan out there and the guy has been late 2 times. When they pay late (over 15 days) late fees are added and intrest payments go up while principle payments hold relatively steady. It doesn't pay to stiff on a prosper loan.
