Nevada Gaming Revenues Down Big In May

Picked up my copy of Gaming Today this morning only to learn that Las Vegas Strip gambling revenues (-16.4% since a year ago) were down the worst in ten years

It was even worse Downtown and in the outlying "locals" casinos.

The one bright spot? The sportsbooks, where revenues were up 7.2%. (But with only a hold of 4%.) Some of us do try to do our small part to help out the local economy..

Now that football season is around the corner, hopefully, traffic will pick up.

Somebody better start offering those 99-cent shrimp cocktails and foot-long, ten-pound hotdogs again.

Not surprised to hear the gaming revenues are down. And I think it could take longer than football season to turn it around.

Yep, with people being priced out of driving or flying here to Vegas, sounds like The Offshore Industry should be able to make an even stronger case for the benefits of Internet Gambling than ever before, if anyone ever get the laws straightened out.

No, I'll try to make the rounds.

I guess I'm getting old, but I don't even stay in a book to watch many games anymore. Used to be a lot of fun trying to keep up with six at a time.. Now I lie on the couch and yell, scream, live, and die in the privacy of my own home.

I was never much for running the full gamut of emotions in public, either. With online gambling, the window sits right next to my TV.

A new game in town?

Among possible regulation changes the Nevada Gaming Control Board may consider in the coming months is one that would expand the opportunities for parimutuel wagering.

In December, the Nevada Gaming Commission approved a concept proposed by Parimutuel Entertainment LLC that would allow pooled wagering on sporting events beyond horse and dog racing.

Washington attorney Harry Platis proposed a system that would allow casinos to add golf tournaments, pool and billiards tournaments, dart tournaments and motor sports to the parimutuel system.

Before such wagers are allowed, however, a number of state regulations need to be changed. One regulation covering regulated competitive tournaments would stipulate that events such as motor sports races and various parlor game tournaments would require at least 16 entrants before parimutuel wagering would be allowed. For poker tournaments, 32 contestants would be required, and the tournament would have to be conducted or sponsored by a nonrestricted license holder.

Not everyone thinks the idea will take off.

Vic Slerno of American Wagering, operator of the Leroy?s chain of sports books in Nevada, told the Las Vegas Sun that car races and golf tournaments are already on the board and don?t book much action. He didn?t anticipate a big market for dart or billiards tournaments.

GOOD!

serves them right for the way they "F" their customers

start offering FAIR games with FAIR payouts and maybe i will start gambling when i am in town

this means

**NO 8,000 shoe BJ games
**NO "6:5 Single Deck BJ" - go back to 3:2
**Sportsbooks NO LONGER "F-ing" its customers by having 2 sets of lines - the lines on the board and then when you want to play that line find the line "mysteriously" moved 1/2 point against you
**One a weekend or holiday period having $10 BJ games instead of nothing less than $25 - the dealer standing at an EMPTY $25 table might be your clue that offering a lower level BJ game might generate some more revenue for your hotel
