Clinton Portis - RB - Redskins

Washington Post beat writer Jason La Canfora would "bank on" the Redskins giving Clinton Portis every opportunity to be a feature back in 2008.
While former RBs coach Earnest Byner often campaigned for Ladell Betts to get more work, La Canfora believes Jim Zorn's staff will use Portis as a "workhorse." Zorn has indicated that he plans to open 2008 with a run-heavy offense. An injury free offseason would be a promising sign for Portis. Apr. 16 - 2:31 p.m. ET

Clinton Portis - RB - Redskins

LaRon Landry only narrowly beat Clinton Portis in a foot race at Redskins minicamp.
Landry has sensational speed and ran a 4.35 forty coming out of LSU, so it's impressive that Portis was close. Portis is also enjoying a rare injury-free offseason. The Redskins will keep Portis as an every-down back this year. May. 5 - 3:32 p.m. ET

Clinton Portis - RB - Redskins

Clinton Portis missed the Redskins' OTA workout Wednesday with a "minor hip flexor strain."
Portis appeared headed for a healthy offseason after last summer's disaster, but apparently that won't happen. The Redskins believe Portis may have been hurt when he raced LaRon Landry Sunday. Portis' status is unknown. May. 7 - 3:36 p.m. ET

Clinton Portis - RB - Redskins

After spending far more time at the Redskins facility in this offseason than ever before, Clinton Portis has been excused from OTA work indefinitely.
With his coaches' permission. Portis has earned a reputation as a lax offseason worker, and it has showed up in the past with too many injuries. While we wouldn't go crazy about his improved maturity, it's a good sign he's taking the offseason more seriously. Jun. 10 - 3:01 p.m. ET

Zorn is optimistic about Portis facing Dallas, but conceded that the injury did not get better during the Week 10 bye. Zorn doesn't expect Ladell Betts (knee) back this week, so if Portis is out Shaun Alexander and Rock Cartwright would likely share the workload. It sounds like Portis won't practice much, if any this week and be a game-time decision on Sunday Night Football.

While it's unlikely, this certainly puts a damper on Ladell Betts as a fantasy start because Portis has played through pain before. "I've got two days left," Portis said. "I'll be in the training room working, trying to get there." Coach Jim Zorn gave Portis a "50-50" change to face Dallas, but it's probably much less than that. The Skins won't use Portis unless he's better than 70% healthy.

Portis took only "mental reps" during the week and definitely isn't worth waiting on in fantasy leagues after this news. His injury would cost most players multiple weeks and if Portis plays, he may not get more than a few carries. Ladell Betts (knee, probable) remains on track to start versus Dallas.

While Portis has vowed to play all week, Zorn revealed that the tailback "really is not full-speed" and will be worked out before the game just like last week before his status is determined. Once again, Zorn is more confident in Ladell Betts' (knee) ability to play. Betts owners can wait for Portis, but those with healthier options in favorable early-game matchups can consider putting Portis on the bench. The Skins don't play Seattle until 4:15PM ET Sunday.

Zorn has called Portis 50-50 for the last three weeks, but he has yet to miss a game this year. "There's a chance he'll be there," Zorn said, "but he's still questionable." Portis did some light work in Friday's practice, which is encouraging. Owners need to check the inactives before Sunday's 1PM ET game against the Giants, but Portis should be all systems go.

Clinton Portis - RB - Redskins Schefter confirms Portis will play
The Redskins should also have a number of key defenders available. Portis is far from 100%, but Jim Zorn wouldn't have handed Portis 29 carries last week if he was that concerned. Portis figures to get another heavy workload on a potentially muddy field Sunday. He won't light it up against the Giants, but remains a safe play. November 29 - 8:27 p.m. ET

Clinton Portis - RB - Redskins Portis to play
Portis didn't put in a practice all week, but he's a gamer and wouldn't miss a big game for the Redskins. Sean Taylor is also being honored at the game and Portis was one of Taylor's best friends. Portis is playing. November 30 - 10:26 a.m. ET

C. Portis is the leading RB in the NFL now. Currently the most Yards rush so far this 2008 season. He's probably having a better Career year than Chargers RB standout L.Tomlinson.

Portis sat out Wednesday's practice and may not do much before pre-game warmups on Sunday. While he probably will play, it's time to consider sitting Portis in fantasy leagues. Washington faces Baltimore's No. 3-ranked run defense in a Sunday night game. The Ravens yielded only 57 yards on the ground last week, over half of which came from Bengals QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Clinton Portis - RB - Redskins Portis expected to play
No surprise, but always good to get confirmation. Portis is at less than 100% against a great defense, so his owners shouldn't automatically put him in the lineup. We have him ranked as a below average second running back. December 7
