The money seems about right, and it's an especially good deal for the Diamondbacks with the third year being at their option. Had Haren been a free agent this winter, it's quite likely he would have made something like $80 million-$90 million for five years or $100 million for six years. Arizona will control him for five years at $58.75 million.

He was hitting .335/.385/.601 for Bowie this season, but the Orioles never did put him back in Triple-A after he was mediocre there last year. Now that he's no longer an option in the infield, it's doubtful that he'll have a career as a bench player. Still, if it's him or Jay Payton, the Orioles might as well give him a look in center field.

Luis Montanez could take over there against right-handed pitchers. Both are right-handed hitters, but Payton has proven he's completely incompetent except when he facing lefties. Jones probably won't be back until September.

There will likely be plenty of interest in him if he becomes a free agent.
