Vegas Comps

Any secrets to getting them or do you just have to join players clubs and get rated and that's that?

Re: Vegas Comps

When I first started going to Vegas, I would step up to the table with a $500 buy-in. Every 10 hands or so, I'd try to slip a chip in my pocket until I had a pocket full of chips and nothing left on the table. Then I would tell them to hold my seat as if I was going to reload at the ATM. I would go cash in my chips, and then come back and sit back down with another $500.

When I would ask for comps, even if my hourly wasn't where it needed to be, they always had me losing a ton more than I actually did, so I got decent comps anyway. This works especially well when they are changing shifts and the new dealer has no idea what you had in front of you. I'd always drop a black chip in when they rotated.

I haven't done this in a while, but I know they look at both hourly and what you are down, so over the course of a few days, this can make a HUGE difference in the comps you get.

I would only do this BTW if I was staying at the hotel and could accumulate losses over teh course of a few days.

As for time, they just clock you when you start and don't take into account (usually) how busy the place is. Take advanatge of this by sitting at a full table (fewer hands per hour equals more time at the table with your money). Take a bathroom break a couple times an hour. Keep the clock running.

Of course there is always playing a higher per hand average by playing two hands. This counts as double the amount tracked, but the variance is less than playing one hand alone.

You can also play a higher amount over the few hands that the pit boss is watching to improve what he tracks you at, then drop down when he is away. I dont think they care (or would even notice) as long as you arent playing $100 then dropping to $10 when he leaves.

I also had friends that would stick their player cards into the higher dollar slot machines and leave them there. People that weren't using their cards would often step in and use the machine for a while, thus racking up points for their account without using their own money.

Just a few of the ideas I've used or seen.

Re: Vegas Comps

Won't work playing $10 a hand chief. "Squirrleing chips as they call it works on occasion, but they keep accurate count of their rack.

If you want comps you need to buy in big, and start your first couple bets big, then when the pit boss leaves, lower it, you seem him coming jack it up.

if you are playing a decent BJ game, keep track of the cards a little, high counts sky that mf'er, low counts low ball it.

but aces method doesnt work. best to lear a little VP and rake in the comps.

Hell, if you just learn BS for BJ you can cut your edge down big time, but variance can get you. i always recommend not to play for comps, but if you must, follow the advice above to better your chances of not paying $500 for a $10 buffet

Re: Vegas Comps

Good idea about cashing in and out. However most places use the button at the 21 table. The table button is pushed by te dealer prior to your hand being dealt.Your play is then calculated by the weight of the chip in your position at the table. Each denomination of chip has a different weight. There are many flaws to this way of tracking. I PREFER THE OLD WIN WALK CARDS.:smoking2:

Re: Vegas Comps

80 per hand -3 hands a minute. That figures around 14k per hour the old way. You should rate around 1% of your "action " back ,at least. At the horses 2% was the going rate-always fudged in customers favor to prevent any arguments.

Pay attention while strolling through the casinos while being on the lookout for credits left on unattended machines, coin trays at knee level at machines imbedded in bar tops.

Don’t play 6/5 BJ tables rather ask where the 3/2 single-deck tables are located again paying attention, to the cards played.

Ask how drinks are compensated when sports wagering (there are variances between establishments), putting $10 in a machine at a bar and playing gets you the drinks for free as well as at any other slot machines throughout the casino but typically drink service is poor on the floor.

Asking others what the best deals are is a great conversation starter in meeting people. Know the number probabilities in craps and bet with probability, not against it.

Tip only those that deserve your appreciation of their services e.g. low paid room attendants if your room is cleaned efficiently and to satisfaction.

Look for show/entertainment specials, particularly from the hotel your staying at...Vegas isn't only about gambling.

Have fun but don’t fall in the trap of chasing comps only to lose more than anticipated…which is exactly what happens to the vast majority of those chasing comps yet always ask what specials are currently being offered.

Re: Vegas Comps

basic strat.......do you hit A7 vs a 10?

gotcha, yea i am pretty decent a player, know bs, and have refined my betting over the years. HAve hit big a few times...not gonna act like i haven't dropped thousands in a day though. But I always felt pretty good about the comps though. Cost me next to nothing to play, and some trips i skipp BJ entirely and play poker and they still comp me...
