because score was 6-5 SF at the point where the game entered the bottom of the 5th inning.

Few books still offer this, IMO ! Most went to 5 complete innings, as far as I know.

5 innings should become the standard, IMO.

But I fully understand the difference between 4.5, and 5 innings.
