Munchkin Man
EOG Dedicated
Greetings:
For those of you who have been enjoying the long running series of James Bond movies during the past nearly 50 years, do you have a personal favorite?
If so, which one is it?
With respect to personal enjoyment and entertainment, the Munchkin Man's all time favorite is Goldfinger (1964)
Gert Frobe was great in the role of Auric Goldfinger in that film and was probably the greatest Bond villain ever.
One of the Munchkin Man's favorite scenes in that film is the "friendly" golf match between James Bond and Auric Goldfinger, while the two of them are playing mind games with each other.
Scenes like the golf game from Goldfinger exemplify the type of scene that has been missing from the most recent Bond films and their disproportionate emphasis upon non-stop action.
The Munchkin Man's second favorite Bond film is From Russia With Love (1963), which preceded Goldfinger (1964).
The Munchkin Man believes From Russia With Love was technically the best of the Bond films and the one which most closely captures the essense of a serious spy movie.
As you have probably guessed, the Munchkin Man regards Sean Connery as the best of the James Bonds.
Your guess is correct.
In the Munchkin Man's personal opinion, the worst of the James Bonds was Timothy Dalton, who played the role with too much seriousness and Shakespearean style remorse.
A lot of people like to criticize Roger Moore for playing the role of James Bond too much like a buffoonish cartoon character.
Actually, the Munchkin Man didn't think he was that bad.
Roger Moore played the role with that "twinkle in his eye" and the "devil may care" attitude which captured the essense of Bond's personality.
The Munchkin Man's personal favorite of the Roger Moore Bond movies was
The Spy Who Loved Me 1977), with the lovely Barbara Bach and a terrific villain played by Curt Jurgens.
Pierce Brosnan?
The Munchkin Man could never seem to warm up to him in the role of James Bond.
He came across too much like a department store mannequin to suggest the brawny persona of the James Bond the Munchkin Man grew up with in Sean Connery.
How about the newest James Bond actor, Roger Craig?
The Munchkin Man's jury is still out.
The Munchkin Man has to be honest and confess that that the Munchkin Man has not seen one of his James Bond films yet.
What say you?
Please feel free to share your favorite James Bond movies and actors in this thread.
Best Wishes,
Munchkin Man
