Brown will be interesting to watch coming back from that awful injury. Without that, he is my #1.

Freak is the only way to describe them. The NFL WR class of 2011 should be an amazing one. Should the youngsters leave early.

if he stays healthy, I'd say he should produce enough to be mentioned as one of the top 3 receivers. not sure with Quan gone how much that will affect his numbers, but he's a smart hard working player that blocks well.

I have a man crush on Malcolm Williams.

a lot of people look for a really big year out of him. I was reading some stuff on him just now. heralded. sorta compared to Roy Williams.

LUBBOCK ? One UT receiver went down and affected the rhythm and chemistry in the first half, and another stepped up and provided a new weapon in the second.

Quan Cosby left the game in the first quarter after injuring his leg, and the loss showed. Five times a receiver dropped a pass in the first half, as the UT offense managed just 78 yards through the air.

Then the second half came, and Malcolm Williams arrived.

The sophomore receiver, who made play after play on special teams, turned the game around by finishing off the third quarter with a 37-yard touchdown reception and pulling the Longhorns within three points early in the fourth with a 91-yard touchdown reception.

Williams finished with four receptions for an amazing 182 yards.

"Malcolm was one of the bright spots tonight," Texas coach Mack Brown said. "When Quan went down, Malcolm stepped up. Everybody else seemed to be dropping balls. Boy did he play great. He gave us a chance to win ."

With the Longhorns trailing 22-3 and facing a third-and-25 late in the first half, Williams made an airborne, turn-around, 44-yard reception near the sideline to keep the drive alive. The Longhorns eventually kicked a field goal.

His first touchdown catch was a quick slant on which he broke a tackle and then split three defenders for a 37-yard catch.

His final reception, the 91-yarder, was on a first-and-19.

I'm not sure if Shipley will be the return man this year, he made some big plays last year.

He's so smooth and uses his size well. Hes got to be one of the best few players that no one talks about heading in to the season. Maybe Im wrong about him, but the glimpses I saw of him were brilliant. I'd love to have him on the Vols. Hell, I'd love to have him on the Redskins.

Re: The top 25 Wide Receiver in College Football heading in to the 2009 NCAAF Season

I doubt he will surpass Shipley's production this year. McCoy and Shipley are still roommates as far as I know, haven't been to Jester in a while. Colt's timing with Jordan is phenomenal. Malcolm is a burner and horn fans are still debating who is faster. word is that Jordan is faster off the line, Malcolm with more top end speed. before his injuries, Shipley was a class speedster, not world class like Jamaal Charles but Shipley probably goes 2nd round. WR's are a dime a dozen in the lone star state, but the general inside consensus is/was that Malcolm is special. Stoops with another classless remark dismissing an OLman, unfortunately for Texas fans the BigXII doesn't call holding, otherwise OU's offensive line looks very weak.
AUSTIN, Texas ? Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley were country kids who dreamed of playing football together at tiny Abilene Christian.
Afternoons were spent rolling around in sandlot games and watching the Division II school, where their fathers had been teammates and roommates.
Their talent soon outgrew their dreams. The Wildcats' loss turned out to be Texas' gain.
Although the best friends went to different high schools in small towns several hours apart, those playground games proved serendipitous when McCoy, a quarterback, and Shipley, a wide receiver, both ended up in Austin, scoring touchdowns for the Longhorns.
"We talked about playing together a long time ago," McCoy said. "We didn't know it would be Texas. I guess we one-upped ourselves."

Shipley has emerged as McCoy's best deep threat this season. He has four touchdowns, including a 60-yarder last week against Rice on a night McCoy became the school's career leader in TD passes with 62.
"It has been a lot fun to share this thing together," Shipley said as No. 7 Texas (3-0) geared up for Saturday's game against Arkansas (2-1).
Shipley makes it look easy now, but the road from catching TDs in Abilene to doing it in front of 98,000 at Royal-Memorial Stadium was long and painful. One of the most prolific high school receivers ever lost two full seasons in college because of knee and hamstring injuries.
Helping him work through the frustration was McCoy, the guy who drew up the plays in the West Texas dirt when they were kids.
"It was a struggle (for Shipley). It was tough," McCoy said. "When something like that happens, you definitely have to have someone you can talk to."
The boyhood friends had split apart when Shipley's family moved to Burnet, a Texas Hill Country town about an hour northwest of Austin, where his dad coached the high school. A high school all-American, Shipley ranked No. 2 nationally in career yards (5,424) and No. 3 in career touchdowns (73) and signed with Texas in 2004.
McCoy stayed in tiny Tuscola where he developed into a big-time quarterback and one of the top passers in Texas high school history. When he signed with the Longhorns in 2005, the buddies were back together again.
But Shipley's college career was already on the wrong track.
A serious knee injury at the start of training camp forced him to miss all of the 2004 season. Hamstring problems forced him to miss out again in 2005, the year Texas won the national championship. He has a championship ring, but he gave it to his mom to keep and he seldom even looks at it.
"We thought he'd start as a freshman and we lost him for two years," coach Mack Brown said.
Brown understands the physical and psychological toll that injuries can take on player. He has struggled most of his adult life with knee injuries suffered when he was a college player and had to have knee replacement surgery.
"Most would have quit," Brown said. "But he's tough."
McCoy redshirted and watched Vince Young lead Texas to the 2005 championship. Shipley was still struggling to find his role when McCoy took over the job in 2006, throwing a touchdown on his second career pass attempt.
McCoy was off and running while his best friend felt like he was standing still.
"I think everything happens for a reason. I learned more from what I went through my first couple of years here than the rest of my life," Shipley said.
Shipley had never had a serious injury before, or at least one that would keep him out of a game. In fact, Shipley had always been the tough guy.
As a high school junior, he played in the state championship game with an ingrown toenail that developed a staph infection and landed him in the hospital for three days. As a senior, he returned the opening kickoff of the title game for a touchdown. He also played defense and suffered a concussion on the first drive but kept playing.
"I learned a lot of patience, for sure," he said of his college injuries. "It was one of those deals where I couldn't do anything about it. It just increased my mental toughness."
He knew he had the support of a friend.
Just like their dads were, McCoy and Shipley are roommates and more like brothers than friends. They compete in everything, pushing each other to the limit whether it's hunting, fishing, playing golf or shooting basketballs.
"I beat him three times in golf this summer, which he was hot about," McCoy said. They challenge each other on every shot, from driving distance to putts.
"We go back and forth. and we use the same driver so it's fair," McCoy said.
They love to hunt, but disagree over who's a better shot.
"I don't want to throw him under the bus. He's pretty good," Shipley said.
"Ask him who shot the biggest deer. He's caught the biggest fish," McCoy said. "I smoke him in basketball. He's faster than me. I always say I've got better hands, they just don't throw me the ball."
Although Shipley is a year older than McCoy and is a fifth-year senior, he's thinking of petitioning the NCAA for a medical hardship sixth year of eligibility. If he does, he could help McCoy set just about every Texas passing record in the book.
But Shipley doesn't want to count on anything that isn't guaranteed, just like it wasn't in 2004 and 2005 when he sat and watched the Longhorns go 24-1 without him.
"I have to approach it like I don't have another year because it's not guaranteed," Shipley said. "The way I'm kind of going about it is that this is my senior year."

Re: The top 25 Wide Receiver in College Football heading in to the 2009 NCAAF Season

that article is old I think from before last season. Both Coach McCoy and Coach Shipley are ultra class cats. Last year this drunk idiot sitting across from the recruits was hammered and just yelling all kinds of F Mizzou type shit before the game. Colt's dad went over to him and I got there right when the left hook was cocked, broke it up. We aren't allowed to talk to the recruits, but one of them asked me WTF was that? I told him "oh, that's just Colt's dad taking care of you guys...and Earl Campbell is right behind you..." straight to signee... I have a massive crush on Jordan's sister, Shelby. man, oh man f'ing 3 more months....

Darryl Catchings at OSU will have more receiving yards than half of the receivers on this list.
