Regarding Ron Boyles' comment mentioned on Winning Wednesdays

He said at the M Resort in Las Vegas, they ask him at the window, "Don't you want (to bet) any more?" or something similar.

I don't bet nearly as big as some others, so when I run into limits and/or have bets rejected and/or get some form of "heat" at the window, it's a pretty good sign I'm in a crappy/poorly run sports book.

No matter what your betting level, it is nice to hear, "Don't you want any more?"

It's usually a sign you're dealing with a well-run, professionally managed operation.

They definitely do say that at the M.

Is it fair say to the big bet takers in LV are the M, Hilton, South Point/Palms??

Jeff...What's the story behind the M? Obviously someone made the decision that they would become the high stakes sportsbook...it would be interesting to track that person down and have him narrate how that decision was made.

Pete, That is fair but there are always exceptions ... like if you're a known square and want to bet a mediocre market line on a big NFL Sunday game, for example, probably won't have much trouble ...

southpointe and the palms are below average Books. the hilton is run very well. The M is 3 steps ahead of any book in Las Vegas. They run an operation like i've never seen before. i have been going there for about 9 months now, and it never ceases to amaze me at the things i see there. i still enjoy a trip to the hilton now and then because they put up qutie a few props, and never turn away one of my bets. i'm not a huge fan of the crowd that hangs out at the hilton though. kind of a rough crowd.

Isn't Ron Boyles the guy that Manteris made give back the sports ticket at Stations a few years back? I don't think he gave it back though right?

i'm sure he got banned for life!

South Point has good comps and pretty high limits.

Cantor Gaming is behind the M sports book, which Roxy Roxborough mentioned in our recent interview:

http://www.eog.com/news/full-article.aspx?id=47506

Jeff this isnt true. Cantor was set up to be just the technology provider and got the specs approved by GCB, then went about making a product that worked. The guy who got it approved then left and started Lucky's. The guy who replaced him and got the product into the market comes from a technical platforms background. There is no gamble in Cantor by any means, the owner of the M just has deep pockets and was convinced there is a good market for being the place dealing the highest limits.

WOnder if the M is doing well and planning on carrying this reputation? It was there for the taking and now they have started to leave the competition in the dust.

They started off hot taking big limits in table games but then got beat a few times and down came the limits. I'd say this is always just a risk management gamble and if they get stung enough the limits will come down. Unlike with some offshore outs where they can lay off or use the plays to drive some of their own action, a Vegas book is always out on an island when going after this end of the business. Picking up the Venetian, if that rumor is true, sounds better and better to me each time I think about it. That is one of the few places in town you can find a non-sharp bettor willing to put up a large wager.
