SELECTIONS FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 6

824 Ohio State -7.5 over Wisconsin.....The Badgers hit the Buckeyes with a 30-6 scoring run in the first meeting in Madison. No such runs coming on Senior Day in Columbus. Wisky's big men appeared tired in a road win the other night against Indiana. Jordan Taylor bailed out the Badgers that night. OSU has scored 89, 82 and 82 points in each of its last three victories.

846 St. Mary's -8 over Santa Clara.....Santa Clara played at the site last night, but St. Mary's benefits from a game at Orleans Arena in late December, a 94-72 victory over Mississippi State. The Gaels have a chance to re-group here after a shaky three-game losing streak in mid-February.

848 Gonzaga -12.5 over San Francisco.....The young Dons will struggle to score after playing last night. The Zags appear to be peaking at the right time. Love the development of 6'9" freshman Sam Dower.

811-812 New Orleans Hornets-Cleveland Cavaliers "OVER" 194.5.....The Cavs have been re-built since the trade deadline. They still cannot defend, but the point guard duo of Ramon Sessions and Baron Davis guarantees a proven presence on the floor for Cleveland at all times. Not many defenders can stay in front of New Orleans point guard Chris Paul. Leading scorer David West is out (ankle) for New Orleans, but he bogs down the Hornets half-court offense. Paul looked good last game (23 points and 14 assists) without having to feed the slow-moving West on the offensive end.

March record: 13-14.

Hope I'm not overreacting to a few dead dogs over the past month or so. This late in the season, some teams have quit. Check out what Louisiana Tech did yesterday. They were the only team that did not qualify for the WAC tournament, so the Bulldogs mailed it in last night against Utah State in a 72-30 loss.

And the reasoning?

First of all I have been betting Fairfield overs since they had statistically the 2nd best def in the country about 11 games ago. I also pounded this same game over a month ago and it flew over. If anything St pete's is a little better than they were a month ago.

This line is tugging to under and 115 was even available just after my post. Best I can do for a writeup.

Have to admit, the thought crossed my mind that you may have, but let's trust your instincts and get some winners. 3-1 sounds about right, and would put the month 'back in black,' at least %-wise.

With no fouls to end regulation, last time these two (St Petes<>Fairfield) played to 118 Before overtime at St Pete's. This time is in Conn likely resulting in fouls to end the game and a likely finish around 130 with it... Do or die here for St. Petes and likely foul fest to keep the dream alive!

Now 115.0 again. Crazy! anyway Good Luck..

Brutal way to go down, Mammon. Final score: St. Peter's 62 Fairfield 48. Fairfield scored 3 points in the first eight minutes of the game only to be outdone by St. Pete's two points in the first 12 minutes of the first half. Thanks for the effort.

Re: A March to Pointspread Glory

I lost money in February. As the sleazy touts would say, "It's bounce-back March."

Unless it's a month that rhymes with "remember," (e.g., "November to Remember!), touts really do have a tough time coming up with much of a catchy hook on their advertising.

I liked Johnny DiMarco's straightforward marketing approach. He would scream on a tape-recorded scorephone message, "It's time to whip out your dick and piss on your bookmaker." Makes me laugh every time.

15 up, 16 down. Not good. Plenty more action in the coming weeks.

Weekend results - 2 dongs and juice on 2 games Sunday. 99 points in the NO game and Chris Paul gets hurt. Can't control the injury factor. On to Monday games and conference tourneys. I can only tell you that you take your bankroll in chance if you play on Nevada in Vegas. Capable of making it to the finals but also very capable of losing to Fresno also. Just don't know what kind of effort you will get with them. Also they can't shoot free throws down the stretch so they will be a fade for me.

You are much too talented to call your wagers "action." Have you ever kept track of your ROI for an entire season. No matter what the "beating the closing number" sheep say, Quality trumps Quantity. The sports wagering market isn't as effecient as a computer program will tell you. Look for information the linemaker doesn't have, and you have a better chance to stay ahead of the game. Taking a day(days) off to clear the mind isn't a sign of weakness. Good Luck

JK was right about Black coaches being mostly defensive minded. See Fairfield ineptitude on off end. See Mo St taking forever to get a 2nd half FG.

I was making a generalization about black NFL head coaches, not all black coaches in all sports. Check out the quick list: Tony Dungy, Marvin Lewis, Lovie Smith, Mike Tomlin, Mike Singletary, etc.

Like most sports gamblers, I've had winning years and losing years. I had a hard time cashing a bet in 2006, but last season was one of my best years ever.

I like your line about information not contained in the pointspread. That's what I'm trying to uncover at all times. I also look for information not properly weighted by the betting marketplace.

Thanks for your advice, newport2.

P.S. - I don't see a negative connotation to the word "action," but I see your point. I'll stop using the word "action" to describe my play.

SELECTIONS FOR MONDAY, MARCH 7

522 St. Mary's +1.5 over Gonzaga.....Prefer the Gaels' backcourt of McConnell and Dellavedova. St. Mary's looked better closing out a scrappy Santa Clara than Gonzaga looked finishing off a weaker San Francisco team. If St. Mary's can stay even on the glass, they can clinch the automatic bid from the West Coast Conference.

521-522 Gonzaga-St.Mary's "OVER" 142.5.....No travel. Familiar sight lines. No lack of energy. The ability of both teams to hit the "3" ball. Late-game free throws are money from McConnell, Dellavedova, Carter or Stockton.

513-514 Houston-Sacramento "UNDER" 216.5.....Play "UNDER" 216.5 in the Houston-Sacramento game. The Rockets have played improved defense over the past couple of weeks, holding three of their last four opponents to 95 points or fewer. The Kings struggle shooting. They rank 22nd in the NBA with a field-goal rate of 44% and their free-throw rate of 75% is third-worst in the league. The Rockets are trying to make a run at the Western Conference playoffs.

March record: 15-16.

While St Mary's looked better in the 2nd half, I don't agree with the notion that San Fran was much weaker. Based on the closing lines, the market agrees with this, but I guess that's why I liked San Fran and the points yesterday, as Santa Clara and San Fran are basically even in my ratings.

Matter of opinion, kickitGOOD. Good job getting the money with the Dons last night.

As for Santa Clara v San Francisco, I appreciate Santa Clara's hard-nosed style more than USF's finesse approach. I agree the teams are close in ability, but I felt Santa Clara was improving as the season progressed and San Francisco, a young team, was wearing down.

I don't want to go all Railbird on you guys with my "plays" after/during the game with San Francisco, so I'll offer up some value I see on the WCC Championshp. I think this really could go either way, but St. Mary's closed -4 at home 2 weeks ago and now they are getting 2.5 on a neutral, where they have played very well. I see +2.5s at Greek, 5 Dimes and Jazz right now.

Take the Gaels out of Moraga, CA +2.5.

Whatever happened to John Kelly the "specialist"? Not trying to bring you down, but you used to talk about knowing a lot about a few teams/conferences. Sorry to say but your recent MO has been knowing a little about a lot of teams and that is not a prescription for success. MH

I'm 15-19 over the past seven days after an 0-3 performance tonight. No need to panic.

I love tournament basketball and I'm confident the winners are on the horizon.

As for being a specialist, I'm betting only what I know. I don't look at more than half the college card.

Now give me a winner at Oaklawn Park.

SELECTIONS FOR TUESDAY, MARCH 8

Tickling the Tuesday Tournament Totals. And overs no less! We go head-to-head on the UConn 138 total, maybe I'll play the 1st half under and root the game to go over.

All 4 overs in the Big East. Lot of games played in the 120's of late so I think these totals are a shade lower than where they should be, based on that notion I like the overs from a value perspective.

No bearing here but the totals in the first 2 days from the 2009-2010 BE tournament were 107, 124, 215 (Hall-109 vs PC-106), 137, 112, 118, 124, 135.
