I remember one time my local couldn't run his office on a football Sunday, and he trusted me so much he asked me to take the calls from his 30+ customers. Recorded the bets, checked everything out with him when he returned and to this day he tells me he trusts my figures more than his own. I've been with him about 25 years.

i remember not being able to get in the parking lot at the area racetracks here around detroit,it was so full that i had to park park a mile away,sadly those days of horse tracks being crowded are long gone

My dad and many of the big gamblers including some who wrote books, used to sit in the bleachers at Fenway and have LIVE BETTING. They had odds on everything from that point in the game on or pregame too of course. Plenty of room in the Fenway bleachers too as they had their own section. Have heard a lot of stories and good times from my Dad and his old time gambling friends.
My dad and many of the big gamblers including some who wrote books, used to sit in the bleachers at Fenway and have LIVE BETTING. I'm 18 years old and I'm looking to place a wager.
It's the dead of winter in downtown Chicago and I ask the gentleman bundled up inside a newsstand shack on Michigan Avenue if he knows where I can place a bet on a basketball game.
The newsstand sold Daily Racing Forms and tip sheets like The Gold Sheet, Winning Points, The Sports Reporter, etc.
The newsstand attendant told me to visit the corner of 12th and State.
I drove to the location he recommended only to find the headquarters of the Chicago Police Department.
That's cruel and unusual punishment.
I'm 18 years old and I'm looking to place a wager.

I'm at Gulfstream with Steak Tartar...after the flats we are going to Pompono Park for some trotters....after the days races were over, Steak's rent a car wouldn't start...and we don't want to be late for the daily double so he pulls out a hundred dollar bill and yells to the patrons leaving that anyone who can get the car started will be a hundred dollars richer....that did the trick!
Steak had a good night at Pompono and the car was paid for a few times over....

I think the guy had a family obligation that he couldn't avoid, steak, and we had been doing business for over 10 years by that point. He didn't have call-forwarding or anything, so I actually went to his house and set up shop for the morning. Locked the door on my way out and we checked our figures the next day.

Sitting with a bunch of guys from work watching tOSU-Mich game in about '68 when they were 1-2. We had lieve betting going every which way from Sunday - make/don't make 1st down, which side of the field the ballcarrier runs to, field goal make/don't make, etc.
Thinking not very much money actually changed hands that day... kinda like props - you win one, you can afford to lose 4 or 5.

I've mentioned it before but about 27 years ago, that wonderful feeling I got walking into the betting shops one Saturday afternoon to find the odds ( all hand written on the boards) on the NFL games that week included the Thursday thanksgiving day games. :houra won about ?250 between 10 shops. The next year everything had changed, Brit Books all clued up. :shoot:

same here, my guy was going to the eagles game and asked if i would help out...was a sweet gig, worked every home eagles game for 3 or 4 years. great learning experience and paid great. only 1 catch, had to do it at his house.
