I went to the casino today to play some poker. Unlike you high rollers, I played $3/$6 limit hold 'em. +$30 for the day. Eh.

who ever gets a royal flush?

i have never seen one in live action with both hole cards

but my hours of play could be the reason.

First time I've ever had one during a live game @ a casino.

But I know I had about three back in the online poker room days, and I never seemed to win big.

Maybe you saying, "Hot Damn!" kinda scares 'em off.

Had just one royal flush in my lifetime. Was playing donkey poker at the Flamingo in a 1-2 NL
game. Had 2 callers and eventually everyone went all in. Pot size was 700 +. Quit playing since
my starting hands got to be really bad. Could go several hours without playing a hand. Rarely
saw a pair or decent starting hand when I was on the button or in a good position.

In hold'em if you have a royal flush, chances are pretty good that nobody else has anything. If they have 2 pair they're worried about the straight and the flush, if they have a flush it's a low one and they're worried about a bigger flush. You come out betting strong and they'll likely go away.

Best situation I've had with a royal flush was when the other guy had quads, but it was limit omaha so I couldn't stack him.
Won 4 or 5 high hand jackpots with royal flushes though, which are usually worth more than the hands themselves.

I chased the bad beat at Hard Rock (Tampa) a couple years back, it was like 380k. I played 2 days straight. Went home, slept 16 hours, then went to Biloxi. The 2nd hand up there I hit a Royal Flush, got a free jacket. I told him to keep it.

You will get paid off better getting a straight flush against an A-high flush.

How long did you wind up playing? Better to be up modestly I guess.

I played $3/6 limit at the Orleans back in '04 and hit a wheel straight flush on the turn (a-5 h). Gave me a hat, T shirt and free buffet. Hit royals several times but with just one card. They make the bad beat minimum hand so ridiculous these days anyway.

Getting pkt aces in the big blind, and having everyone, including the small blind fold, aint fun either!

Re: Why is it every time you're lucky enough to get a Royal Flush...

a dealer at mohegan sun told me she never saw one while working there in a year and a half. She had to see lots of hands too.

Pretty sure odds of getting a royal flush using both cards in holdem is over 600k-1

I've had 1 online over 460k hands or so.
