What got you into sports gambling?

Whenever I see the sportsbook.com banner I always think about my freshman year in college... Saw a sportsobok.com ad somewhere online, thought "I could make money doing that", and the rest was history.

1) When did you first start sports gambling?

2) What was your first online sportsbook?

when I was a youngster, I remember seeing my grandpa filling out parlay cards on sunday, I would have to run it up to the locals house every sunday for him. When I got older and met my future wife, her father bet with a local, As I got to know him better I would get him to place a few wagers for me, mostly college football back then. that was the only sport I played. When I went off to college, a buddy of mine wanted to start betting on ncaa hoops, so we got a cash advance off our credit card and sent it to a online book. I think it was sportingbetusa, but i'm not 100% sure. We quickly lost all of 2000$ and he didn't play anymore. Now, I still use a local for football, but online for all other sports.

it was 1978 and i was in 2nd grade. my good friend timmy said the steelers would beat dallas in the superbowl. i said no way. he said wanna bet? i said ok...how about $1.

been chasing ever since.

by the way, i have to think they were dogs in that game. they lost by four but, since i was 7 and did not know what a point spread was, i did not get any points.

anyone know if dallas covered?

my first online book was esb in 1996.

I believe that was the year books took a beating on the point spread since 4 was the middle number as the game opened -3.5 and closed at -4.5.

Saw a BOS ad in Maxim about 9 years ago. Called them up to ask a few questions and sent in a western union that day. I remember winning my first bet (bucs)....think I won about 4 in a row. If only it were that easy.

Always played entertainment type plays at the local pool hall but won a nickel on a radio (pick the score) contest when Green Bay beat New England 35-21 in a Super Bowl. Sent it to ABC Islands.

Big Daddy - LOL - that was back in the days when we didn't know the difference in 5 to 1 and 5 for 1 unless you were a craps player. Did they pay the same way on a 5 team Doyle? Charge juice on a 3 team - 4 team Doyle, etc.

I started sports gambling approx. 18 - 20 years ago with a local. (Pay Wednesday, collect Thursday)

ABC Island was my first online book.

and WWTS was my first offshore account (telephone).

Never heard the term but 2-4 team parlays any push also counted as a loss so go 3-0-1 for a buck and lose:+signs8-7

I started a new job once about six years ago. Felt bored every day when I started so I kept surfing the net. Then I came across the mvpbets.com site and they were offering a free sports beeper with a pretty low deposit (something like $300 or $500). I thought it would be a cool thing to have and throwing a few dollars on games each night helped get me through those boring days.

By a year or so later, I stepped up my action a lot and it paid off. I also came across the Rx and then began opening a couple of other accounts. Since then I always try out a couple of new books each year.

Overall, I've had a lot of up's and down's but in the end this kind of thing fulfilled what I wanted it to. And participating in these forums is another good way to get through each day. Lots of us out there going through the same kinds of problems. We learn from each other and we all work together to "bury the man" so to speak. It's all good.

Had a racetrack buddy that I would bet with. We would take turns picking teams out of the newspaper and bet each other $10 dollars a game. Then one day he said he saw a add in a sports magazine of a sportsbook that would take your action by phone. Internet wasnt around. It was ESB and the rest was history.

when I was in the 4th, 5th, 6th grade my best friend only lived a block away. In the summer time we went bb gun hunting every day behind our house and fishing every day in the summer time. Sometimes we did both.

Whoever caught the most fish or killed the most birds won. We usually laid on the line our best fishing lures or baseball cards.

The competition was FIERCE!

After that, I played poker every weekend in high school and on the bus on the way home from baseball games (only if we won, which we nearly always did).

In college, heck, right when I stepped on campus pretty much was when I made my first bet.

Cybersportsbook was my first online book I'm pretty sure; around 98 or so maybe 99...I can't remember that far back. It was around my junior or senior year in college.

DIAL UP. I hated those days.

I actually remember playing Texas hold 'em for beer bongs as a sophomore. Texas Hold 'em became a pretty popular game around the Fraternity house when I was around. It usually ended up being 5 guys all in and four guys bonging beers about every other hand until we were shitfaced, but it was fun either way.

1. 1974 Freshman in High School. Was running parlay cards, betting, capping the entire sked. My dad, brother and I would have capping contests, pools and you make the line tests. I think it started with marbles, when I was 7 or 8. Nobody ever told me marbles would lead to the hard stuff. After seeing how easy it was to take squares marbles, I graduated to pitchin. Mostly quarters. Then sports.

2. Pelican now Jazz
or Premeire League now Eddie's Bank Account

1976 - Soccer Pool Betting (predict 13 games threeway and 10 or more correct picks is payday), Graduated to harness Racing a few years later & got myself an online account pretty late, around 1998 I would think.

Well it was a dark and stormy night...No; It wasn't. I remember now.

It was Dizzy Dean's fault. For those of you too young to remember him. He used to do the Saturday Game of the Week (baseball on tv) when I was a kid. He had played baseball and his partner Pee Wee Reese had also played. They weren't the best announcers by any means as I look back on those days of my youth. But man could Dizzy sing. ...Wabash Cannon Ball. Then he and Pee Wee would argue over who had the advantage Pitcher or Hitter; all things being equal. Pee Wee said it was the Pitcher and Dizzy said it was the hitter. They argued for years back and forth. Baseball was magical and betting on the World Series --each year...just seemed normal; like a holiday..such as Christmas or whatever you look forward to as a kid. (I once remmber Dizzy saying.....Mrs School teacher, I'm sorry if your kids are saying the word "ain't" (he used to get letter about his grammar)...but MAM...a whole lots of folks who ain't saying ain't ain't eatin".
Yep--it was Dizzy's fault.
